The old MACC Chief Azam Baki seems like he was someone who was liked a lot by Anwar.
He was likely liked by Anwar so much, that he kept getting his contract renewed although many people had a lot of reservations about Azam Baki.
Because somebody had become so frustrated that Azam keeps getting his contract renewed no matter what cloud hangs over his head, they leaked a story about Azam's as well as MACC's corporate Mafia involvement in Bloomberg.
Even after the matter had become blown up by Bloomberg, Anwar still tried to contain the issue and keep Azam Baki on the job.
But unfortunately for Anwar, somebody started the #TangkapAzamBaki movement when it looked like Anwar still wanted Azam on the job , and they made it impossible for Anwar to contain the Azam Baki scandal.
So what did Anwar do then ?
Well it seems that he has moved to plan B.
And what is plan B ?
Plan B is to look like he is doing the right thing and get Azam Baki replaced.
Who was Azam Baki replaced with ?
Some ex-high court judge.
Who else was in the running ?
Nobody knows because the list of candidates was shrouded in secrecy for a reason that only the powers that be know. If you think about it, there is actually no reason to be so secretive about who it that was in the running to replace Azam Baki. You can understand why the old regime might have kept it such a secret, but that even this Reformasi government also is doing it, is likely why so many people are relabelling Reformasi as Reformati instead.
Anyway, are Malaysians happy with the person chosen to replace Azam ?
Well, although it was the government that came up with the candidates list, the one that made the final selection is the Agong, so we have to be happy with it, because how can we be unhappy with the King's selection.
Azam's replacement, coincidentally, was named today - a Saturday - on the same date that a #tangkapazambaki rally was scheduled to be held in KL.
I suppose Anwar must think he is very clever in the way he outsmarted those who were opposing his desires and will. They had planned to hold a rally to challenge his preferences and desires in the evening, but Anwar had already changed his preference and desire in the morning itself.
I suppose in his mind, this amounts to him checkmating his opponents.
Well, that might be how it looks like in his mind, but in the mind of the rakyat , you know how this entire thing looks like - it looks like the way a politician like Mahathir would have settled this sort of issue in the 90s.
Anwar really belongs in the 90s - what he thinks is a solution is probably just a solution in the 90s - today, if the things he comes up with is still considered a solution, they are a solution that only works in a time that has passed, in a world that no longer exists.
What do I mean by that ?
What I mean is that instead of convincing people that he is the right man for the top job, the things that Anwar does is just convincing people as to why they need to vote Anwar out asap.
If Anwar thinks that this sort of solution is what people want or is what people will be happy with, he is going to be sorely disappointed, because it is things like this that will cause people to vote him out, if snap elections are held today.
When you do things like this, you look like a really old guy, Anwar, who follows old and obsolete method of doing things, that you yourself spent over 25 years trying to overthrow.
It makes you look so old, it appears that you are better fitted to belong in the past then in the present .
Now I hope Anwar doesn't exasperatedly say : "Apa lagi yang korang nak ? Semua yang kita buat semua pun korang kata salah. Simpan Azam Baki pun salah, buang dia pun salah. Korang ni memang tak akan berpuas hati dengan kerajaan , walau apa pun yang kerajaan buat. "
I hope he doesn't, because if he does, then all that I will say to him is what Louis Armstrong once said when he was asked what Jazz was.
Louis said : "Friend, if it has to be explained to you, you will never be able to understand it."
In the same way, if Anwar can't understand why what he does is not what people want, he won't understand it even if it is explained to him .
You just don't get it, Anwar. You don't get it , perhaps because you are too old. You are like a horse chariot - you might be the best horse chariot in the world , but you just don't belong in the year 2026.
