The Head of Umno Youth said the youth wing will hold a special convention Hala Tuju Umno, Sama Ada Kekal Atau Keluar Dari Kerajaan’ on 3 Jan 2026 aimed to gather grassroots opinions on the party’s continued support for the unity government to determine whether the party should sever ties with their coalition partner ie Pakatan.

Why does he need to gather views from the members separately?

What if they is no unanimous or majority consensus reached?

How does he justify it is the views of the entire youth wing if the turnout is no more than 50% of the registered members in the youth wing?

Does those present, if less than 50%, represents the views of the youth wings?

Wonder how he will spin it if this is the scenario at the convention?

Or he is worried and uncertain of the extent of the support for his clarion call and thus he is using the special convention as a `test bed’ to gauge how much support he really has and also as a benchmark for the defence of his post in the next party election?

If he really has the support from majority of the Youth members, he would not have called for a special convention solely to gather opinions.

Knowing his combative style, he would have called and demand for all UMNO ministers and Deputy Ministers to resign immediately instead of putting the call and responsibility back to the Youth members.

He knows full well that the President of his party `cannot afford’ to leave the unity government.

If the Youth Head is unhappy about that, he should start marshalling his resources and prepare himself to mount a challenge against the incumbent President in the next party elections.

As the President, the door is open for him to be the Prime Minister of the country and then as the Prime Minister, he don’t have to call for boycott, threaten this and that and keep harping that he is out to defend the 3R when in actual fact, the public knows that he is undertaking all these actions to keep up and sustain his profile and credentials for him to ascend up the party hierarchy in future.

Only a weak leader calls for a meeting to seek opinions from the grassroots.

Especially when he has limited support from the members and the party has little negotiation power with other political parties and coalitions.

If the party is strong like the period pre 2018, they would not have called for a meeting to seek opinions from their members before deciding on a course of action.

Any meetings called are merely to inform the members on the course of actions taken by the leadership and not to seek their views.

Look at MIC and MCA.

The UMNO Youth Head is just following in the footsteps of their partners in BN.
