…………….. as "political persecution" and "selective persecution"?
At the International Young Future Leaders Summit (iFUTURE) 2026, responding to a question, you replied the following:-
- recent developments as "political persecution" and "selective persecution", saying such practices were unfair,
- If the government want to prosecute anyone, they must be fair and apply the law regardless of political parties. It must be consistent.
- the law must be enforced equally, regardless of political affiliation
- No institution, no government agency should be used or weaponised for anyone's political benefit,
The public pray that you reveal which developments or cases that you deemed as political and selective persecution.
The conditional pardon for PM6?
The ongoing cases against PM6?
The arrests of those named in the RCI Report on Tabung Haji?
The arrests of those in Felda and its subsidiary, Felda Investment Corporation (FIC)?
The arrests of the Chief of Armed Forces and Army Chief?
The arrest of the former Chairman of Yayasan Bank Rakyat?
All the above were investigated, arrested and then only charged.
In the Malaysian legal system, there is a strict separation of powers between the investigative body and the prosecuting authority:
- The MACC's Role: The MACC functions strictly as an investigative body. Their officers gather evidence, interview witnesses, and compile investigation papers. They do not have the legal authority to officially charge anyone in court.
- The Attorney General's Role: Under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, the Attorney General (acting as the Public Prosecutor) holds the sole discretionary power to institute, conduct, or discontinue any proceedings for an offense.
Once the MACC completes an investigation, they submit the papers to the AG's Chambers (AGC).
It is then up to the AG to review the evidence and decide whether there is a strong enough case to officially file charges and proceed to trial.
When the Attorney General (AG)—acting as the Public Prosecutor—decides to file charges, it signifies that the AG's Chambers has reviewed the evidence and determined that the alleged actions satisfy the legal definitions of a crime under Malaysian law.
If you are referring to all or some of the above cases above, maybe you can enlighten the public, why you categorised them as "political persecution" and "selective persecution”?
Firstly, obviously you will agree that the AG must have determined and concluded his assessment professionally.
If the charges were frivolous, the defence lawyers for all the above would, in the trial stage, take the AG to the cleaners.
Obviously the AG, being the top legal advisor to the government and also as the Public Prosecutor would not want to be embarrassed that way.
No institution, no government agency should be used or weaponised for anyone's political benefit?
Are there such instances?
Your response effectively affirmed what the ordinary rakyat has always suspected but lack confirmation from the government of the day.
That the government of the day will use all the resources at their disposal including the judicary, MACC, the police, LHDN, Immigration etc.
Thank you Sir.
Examples of such instances?
Nah, it is common knowledge and the public are well versed with the list of such cases.
No government of the day will be able to deny this in the future now that you have confirmed the fact.
The law must be enforced equally, regardless of political affiliation?
Are you saying that corrupt politicians from other political parties that are not in the madani government are not prosecuted and or are being treated leniently and the investigations into them are taking too long?
Again, the public has always suspected this.
Examples of such instances?
Nah, it is common knowledge and the public are well versed with the list of such cases.
Again, thank you Sir for affirming and confirming what the public has long suspected.
