Recently, the MP for Beluran, Sabah called for equal constituency allocations for all MPs to be guaranteed by law, easier access to no-confidence motions in the Dewan Rakyat, and amendments to the anti-hopping law saying constituency allocations should be protected by law to ensure opposition MPs receive the same funding as government MPs, regardless of which party is in power.

The said MP admitted that Barisan Nasional had failed to do this when it was in government, leaving its MPs without allocations after the coalition lost power in the 2018 general election.

The MP for Beluran Sabah also said the anti-hopping law had failed to stop political defections while penalising MPs such as himself, who had been suspended by their parties but were unable to pursue new political alliances.

The said MP admitted that BN had failed to implement equal constituency allocations when they were in power prior to 2018.

Then he went on and said the anti hopping law had failed to stop political defections.

Is the MP for Beluran Sabah suffering from serious or selective amnesia?

After BN failed to implement equal constituency allocations prior to 2018, BN was given another chance to correct the unequal treatment they have been meting out to their political rivals during the period from Feb 2020 to Nov 2022.

A total of approximately 2.5 years.

During these 2.5 years from Feb 2020 to Nov 2022, the country was firstly led by PM8 which is from your present party and then by PM9 who was from UMNO.

The anti hopping law was prepared, drafted and passed by Parliament during these 2.5 years in July 2022 where BN was a party and led or co-led in the discussion, debate and legislating of the anti hopping law.

Now that you and your colleagues are `caught’ in the quaqmire, you cry foul?

Yes, a law on constituency allocations is important as it has the most direct impact on local grassroots development but what about the laws on the separation of the AG and Public Prosecutor and Prime Minister Term Limit?

Are these 2 proposed changes not of equal importance and priority?

Instead of voting against the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026, which sought to institute a 10-year term limit for the Prime Minister, the opposition MPs abstained or absent themselves during the vote, leading to the failure in the passing of the Bill on March 2, 2026.

Because of this defeat, the government deferred the vote on the accompanying bill to separate the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor roles to allow a Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) to refine it.

Obviously by not voting "no," the Opposition MPs can claim they did not block the reform and by extension wants the government bloc who has a declared two-thirds majority on paper, prove that it really has that two thirds that it claimed it has.

The failure on the passing of the Bill, short of 2 votes from MPs who pledged support for the Madani govrenment was a total disappointment and a betrayal of the people’s trust in their elected representatives.

All three i.e equal constituency allocations, the separation of the AG and Public Prosecutor and Prime Minister Term Limit represent monumental structural overhauls aimed at improving Malaysian democracy.

The MP for Beluran Sabah should urge his colleagues from the Opposition to act before it is too late in voting for the 3 bills ie on the separation of the AG and Public Prosecutor and Prime Minister Term Limit and equal constituency allocations.

As he warned the current govrenment, the MPs from the present government could one day face the same restrictions and funding issues, being investigated and charged if political power changed hands.

If MPs fail to vote for and pass these major reforms, they run the risk of facing serious political, legal, and operational consequences in the future. In the context of Malaysia's fluid political landscape, the failure to codify these laws creates an environment where the rules can easily be weaponized against the very politicians who refused to reform them.

For the MP for Beluran, the choice is at your feet.

It is for you and your colleagues to decide.

And for the ordinary rakyat to be made aware and knows the MPs who prioritize personal power over institutional integrity.
