In Feb 2016, you issued a statement calling for the resignation of the then Tabung Haji chairman and CEO over the controversies surrounding the pilgrims' fund.
In your statement, you claimed that both the chairman and CEO owed depositors an explanation as Section 24 of the Tabung Haji Act, empowered them to determine deposits once reserve levels were in the red and todate the Chairman had not disclosed sufficient information to disprove Bank Negara Malaysia's warning letter that the fund's liabilities outweighed its assets and could hamper its ability to issue dividends to contributors.
You also state that the financials of Tabung Haji should be readily available for public consumption.
And you raised an important issue, often overlooked and not raised, a fact, that 75% of deposits in the fund were by only 5% of depositors.
Recently, PMX has said that the RCI report on Tabung Haji will be released to the public.
Even though it is a bit late – 3 years too late for reasons that do not make sense to the ordinary public – the ordinary public is expecting the report do address and highlight the important issue you highlighted in Feb 2016 i.e 75% of deposits in the fund were by only 5% of depositors.
If this issue is not addressed in the report, the public is expecting you to continuously raise this issue and seek a clarification until the government address this issue publicly.
Knowing who and why Tabung Haji allowed itself to be `used’ in such manner by those depositors, be it individuals or organisations is critical to its good governance and also rid itself of any accusations of money laundering activities.
The public would also like to know whether you intend to push the government to institute criminal proceedings, if the RCI report indicate so, against all those responsible for the huge losses suffered by Tabung Haji.
