You unequivocally emphasizes that "no one is above the law" and that convicts must serve their sentences.
At the same time, this phrase was used while simultaneously endorsing an arrangement where a convicted billionaire gets to leave a prison cell for a private home.
It is obvious that this statement was issued intentionally as a rhetorical shield to cover yours and the government’s position vis a vis the conditional pardon for PM6 recently.
The foundational identity of PH, and the very reason behind its historic 2018 election victory, was its unyielding stance against the 1MDB scandal and systemic corruption.
The 1MDB scandal brought over voters who had never supported PH before.
The conditional pardon is not a perceived compromise on this issue but clearly a compromise directly disillusioning PH’s voter base.
Judging from the reactions from the public on a convicted leader transition from a prison cell to a private residence, if it is not already clear to you, it is obvious that PH will be punished come the next General election.
Traditional DAP and PKR voters already felt that "all politicians are the same" and the reform agenda was not just a farce but a façade created to hoodwink them.
Do not be convinced or have this belief that with PM6 out on house arrest, UMNO will have a hard time convincing the voters to mark their ballot for UMNO.
You are wrong.
UMNO's electoral viability is far more dynamic than a single issue.
Voter behavior in Malaysia is rarely driven by a single ethical metric.
It is deeply tied to localized machinery, economic anxiety, and ethnic representation—areas where UMNO's machinery remains profoundly entrenched.
You should be aware and clear on this because for almost 30 years, from 1996 to the present, you are still facing rejection from those voters who have consistently supports UMNO.
What convinced you your current playbook will succeed and turn them over?
Come the next general election, you can be assured that traditional DAP and PKR voters will not turn out especially in the urban and mixed seats which PKR and DAP used to dominate.
They will say sayonara to you and PH.
