So, the Prime Minister announces a one-off RM100 cash aid for all Malaysians above 18, and then along comes Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong with a very Malaysian suggestion: “If you don’t need it, why not return it?”

Now, instead of saying, “Hey, I think this blanket RM100 giveaway is a bad idea,” he suggests a return mechanism. You know, just in case you feel bad about pocketing the government's goodwill.

Nice sidestep, but here’s the thing - this RM100 isn’t going to change anyone’s life. Some will use it to buy groceries, some will spend it on bubble tea. If Wee Ka Siong genuinely thinks giving RM100 to everyone is a wasteful or populist move - that it's more of a PR stunt than real policy - then stand up and say it loud and clear.

Say: “I oppose this cash handout. It doesn’t help the right people, and it’s bad policy.” Be direct. Be bold.

Instead, we get this weird half-step. A "maybe we can give it back to the needy" suggestion. Like a guilt trip dressed as a policy idea.

The real question

Look, I’m all for better healthcare, faster surgeries, and helping deserving students - but if that’s your priority, make that your fight. Because that’s not the conversation we’re having.

The real question is: Do you believe giving RM100 to everyone is a good move or not?

If your answer is no, then say no. Don’t float a return scheme and act like you’re just offering options. You're a party president, not someone commenting on Facebook under an anonymous name.

This is exactly what’s wrong with politics in Malaysia. Too much indirect talk. Too much dressing up of opinions as suggestions.

I can’t help but wonder - why is it so difficult for politicians to speak their mind once they’re aligned with a party or coalition? Is that part of the package? You sign the membership form and trade in your spine?

Because here’s what happens when politicians keep talking around things instead of addressing them head-on: nobody trusts anything you say. Everything becomes a game of hints and half-truths. And we’re left guessing what you really think.

But maybe that’s just politics, kan? Once you choose a side, you also choose silence. You start speaking in riddles. Every sentence comes with a disclaimer. Every opinion is half-baked because the other half is still waiting for party approval.

Politicians love to say they’re doing it “for the rakyat,” but half the time they won’t even say what they really think to the rakyat.

And you wonder why people are jaded?

Please grow a spine

Malaysians aren’t asking for miracles. We’re not even expecting RM100 to change our lives. But we are expecting our leaders to grow a spine. Speak your truth - even if it makes you unpopular with your own camp. Because if you can’t say what you mean over something as simple as a token handout, how are we supposed to trust you on the big stuff?

And that’s what Malaysians are tired of. Not the RM100. Not even the policy debates. But the lack of sincerity. The fear of taking a firm stand unless it’s approved by your coalition, your party president, your vote bank.

What this country needs is less performance and more backbone. Less dancing around the bush, more speaking from the gut.

If you don’t believe in a decision - oppose it. If you think something’s wrong - say it’s wrong. Don’t sugar-coat your disagreement just to look polite on camera.

Because the truth is: we already know when you're not saying what you mean. We’ve seen it a hundred times before. And each time, it chips away at the little trust we have left in the system.
