Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution, the Secretary-General of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), was recently accused by Dato' Seri Hamzah Zainuddin of attempting to invalidate the results of the party elections held by PKR in 2022. Since the state elections are not too far away, we are confident in saying that these allegations are completely without merit and are being made with the intention of smearing PKR's reputation.
The primary duty of Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution, in his role as Secretary-General of the party, is to ensure that the organisation continues to run efficiently and in accordance with all of its rules and regulations. This includes liaising with the appropriate authorities, such as the Registrar of Societies, as and when required. Any political party would, as part of their standard operating practice, send a letter to the Registrar of Societies to keep them updated on internal happenings and to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements.
If Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution's purported letter to annul the results of the party election was a genuine cause for concern, then it is perplexing that Dato' Seri Hamzah Zainuddin did not bring up this issue sooner. The fact that these allegations were not made earlier, especially so close to the state elections, raises doubts about both the timing of them and their motivations. It seems that this decision to reveal this piece of information was made solely for political mileage.
The claimed effort to invalidate the results of the PKR party election is irrelevant when considered from the point of view of one who is knowledgeable about politics. Conflicts and debates within a party are par for the course of any democratic organisation. The party's internal systems should be used to handle such situations, and they should not be sensationalized by others for the sake of political advantage. It is imperative that attention be paid to issues that are significant to the well-being of the general population and the country as a whole.
Within PKR, Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution has constantly demonstrated a dedication to the democratic and transparent ideals that guide the organisation. His efforts have always been driven by a concern for the welfare of the party and the people who belong to it. We have reason to think that these allegations are baseless and are being made only for the purpose of diverting attention from more pressing matters that require it.
We express our full support for Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution and have full faith in his honesty and integrity in his role as Secretary-General of Parti Keadilan Rakyat. We strongly urge all parties engaged to refrain from engaging in practices that could cause division and instead concentrate their efforts on serving the people and the nation in an honest and committed manner.
