It's no surprise that the disgraced former President of USA, Donald Trump, the master of subtlety, has once again demonstrated his unmatched grace and humility by capitalizing on his oh-so-historic mug shot.
Because nothing screams more "presidential" than slapping your booking photo on a t-shirt and charging your loyal supporters USD$34 (RM153) for the privilege of wearing your disgruntled scowl across their chests.
It's truly remarkable how quickly the Trump campaign managed to pivot from his arrest to peddling merchandise. That's something Najib's and Anwar's campaign managers could have done too when they had the opportunity to cash in for their bosses.
Anyway, for Trump, what I meant to say is, who needs a legal defence strategy when you've got the power of branded T-shirts in your hands? Trump brands still sell!
Also, let's not forget the ingenious choice of slogan – "never surrender," Trump's acclaimed motto on his coat of arms. But he had to surrender to the Sheriff of Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. Trump must have sleepless nights now to swallow his pride.
If there's one thing we all know about Trump, it's that he's never been one to back down from a challenge, like say, accepting election results.
But what's truly heartwarming is how this whole saga marks Trump's triumphant return to X, formerly known as Twitter.
After all, who needs to reflect on their actions or demonstrate growth when you can simply jump back into the spotlight and show off your mug shot to millions of followers on X?
Who cares if it's your first appearance on the platform since your ban following the Capitol riot? Time to make America tweet (or X-ing), again!
Of course, let's not overlook the groundbreaking nature of Trump's booking photo.
It's the first time in history that a sitting or former president has had the honour of posing for a mug shot. Move over, George Washington, your revolutionary leadership is no match for a smirking Trump behind bars.
In a stunning turn of events, two co-defendants managed to meet the deadline for turning themselves in just an hour before the District Attorney's deadline. How suspenseful! It's almost like a reality TV show, but with higher stakes and fewer redeeming qualities.
All in all, we can only express our immense gratitude to Mr. Trump for his unwavering dedication to turning every situation, no matter how serious, into an opportunity for self-promotion.
Truly, history will remember this moment as one of unparalleled statesmanship and humility for Trump and company.
At the local level, history will remember a similar incident where Najib's and Anwar's campaign managers could have used the same opportunity to cash in on the imprisonment of their candidates.
Anyway, there's always a next time.
