It seems to be a norm where we pay for the pricey aesthetic but not the food quality, But it shouldn’t be a norm and we consumers are tired of it.

Spent days and nights just scrolling some food reviews on the social media and ended up feeling like got scammed by the content.

We knew there was a possibility that the food was not presented realistically on the internet yet we still fell for the editing tricks.

Is it a psychological effect from the visually attractive foodies’ pictures? Or is it us that feel unwilling or challenged to be tricked repeatedly and determined to test the other café again?

At one point, we consumers are brainwashing ourselves by saying “ It’s okay, we pay for the aesthetic.”

Yet do we really feel ‘ok’ when we pay RM 15 for an Ice latte in a small aesthetic cup and RM 30 for a small portion yet visually bombing pasta?

Absolutely, No !

If the food quality and the ingredients are aligned with the price, we definitely are willing to pay for the food and introduce it to our family or friends.

Sometimes we people just want to find a cosy café to have a ‘Tea session’ with our friends yet the prices just raise an alarm in our minds and our bank accounts.

Hence, that’s why café-hopping is seen as a luxury activity with this aesthetic culture.

Now, don't get us wrong – we love supporting our local cafes and indulging in a little luxury every now and then.

But when the prices keep climbing higher and higher, it can leave us feeling a little complicated and disappointed.

Are we paying for the experience, the ambience, or just the brand name?

You see, most of us aren't coffee or pastry experts. We're just like you – normal folks who love spending time with our loved ones, savouring tasty food that adds a special touch to those moments.

It's those simple pleasures that make life sweeter.

Let me know any of your café-hopping experiences. Are you willing to pay for the aesthetic?
