Malaysians who are dependent on the cities’ train (LRT/MRT) services were simply elated at the speedy repairs of faulty escalators at various train stations. Complaints of faulty escalators and lifts in these stations seemed to have fallen on deaf ears for months before our new Transport Minister went to the ground to have a spot check on 06 December 2022. And a miracle happened! Very quickly within a week, malfunctioning and faulty mechanisms were restored. I wonder why and how.

To get a firsthand feel of the transport woes of LRT users, Transport Minister Anthony Loke made an unannounced visit to our train stations. He then revealed that a total of 46 escalators and 664 lights at the LRT stations are not functioning. As such, the contract of the escalator will be replaced by February 2023 in order to change all the escalators at the monorail station (WeirdKaya). That was a mere kick on the butt of many who have taken things for granted, bullying all commuters who were very dependent on good transport systems by couldn’t care less attitude or their shoddy work.

That kick on the butt was enough to solve the commuters’ problem. Thank you, Mr Anthony! We appreciate what you have done. I hope all the others who have been shortchanging the nation and the rakyat in various other ways will also quickly redeem themselves. Don’t wait for butts to be kicked.

Whatever our age, we must shed this couldn’t care less attitude. Parents reprimand their children when they are not behaving right. Educators take action when the students under their charge are not towing the line. Bosses need to consistently monitor and guide their staff to have the right work attitudes. As such, the company goals are achieved and the company’s reputation is protected. Let us not wait for our butts to be kicked.

I hope all our ministries too will rise to their call of responsibility and address the many problems plaguing our nation. We hope to see positive changes in our civil service so that we can be confident that things will get done professionally and quickly. We hope to see our society becoming more civic-minded, taking care of government properties, and respecting others when we are sharing the usage of public spaces. We hope to see our nation renewed and infused with all that is positive: positive vibes, positive mindsets, and positive changes.

Oh, what a wonderful day that will be! A Malaysia for all Malaysians. A Malaysia built up by all Malaysians so that Malaysia shines again!
