After receiving numerous false allegations, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang threw this question to two leaders of the opposition bloc in our unity government: What do you want Malaysia to be champions of? This is something every responsible Malaysian must also answer as six states, namely Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Penang will be having their state elections very soon.
Tan Sri Lim remarked that the upcoming six state elections in August are even more important than the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022. This is because GE15 saw the birth of the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government, which can be regarded as a tentative effort to reset and return to the original nation-building principles of a plural Malaysia written into the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara. Whether these efforts of our unity government will continue depends on each of us in these six states. Unless we deliberately make a wise choice, our nation may fall back to being a rogue nation divided by race and religion in the decades to come.
So, fellow Malaysians, what kind of Malaysia do you want? If we want to see a Malaysia that is for all Malaysians, then we must seriously take the responsibility to make sure every vote of ours counts in these six states. If we want to see the efforts of our present unity government continue for the years to come, we must ensure that this government has a strong mandate of confidence to bring Malaysia back on the right track.
We, who are older and have gone through a few general elections, can testify that our beloved nation did not become such a divided state overnight. We want Malaysia to be restored to the principles of the Rukun Negara and that which is enshrined in our Federal Constitution. We want a Malaysia built on respect, truth, justice and righteousness. The upcoming state polls will decide whether we are heading in the right direction or not.
Therefore, fellow Malaysians, gear up for the six state elections. Make every effort to be well informed. Make every effort to go back and cast your votes. Be a volunteer and help to ensure that every state election is clean and fair.
God bless Malaysia!
