I might not know what issue that the ex-Thai General Rangsi Kitiyanasap has with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim brokering peace between Thailand and Cambodia — but whatever it is, I know it’s the opinion of a fool.

I knew it the moment he said that if Malaysia were to go to war with another country, like Indonesia, we wouldn’t want Thailand to interfere.

Really? In a hypothetical war between Malaysia and Indonesia, I’m sure any reasonable person — in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, or anywhere else — would welcome Thailand’s effort to help bring peace.

What kind of fool wouldn’t want someone to try and stop their country from bleeding?

Whether it’s Russia and Ukraine, Israel and Palestine, India and Pakistan, or North and South Korea — the whole world would appreciate anyone who could bring peace between warring nations.

Everyone, that is, except perhaps Rangsi Kitiyanasap.

As for his bizarre claim that Anwar somehow caused economic hardship to Thailand by helping broker peace with Cambodia — even Rangsi probably doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

How, exactly, can the Prime Minister of Malaysia bring economic ruin to Thailand by bringing peace to it?

What kind of mind equates peace with poverty and war with prosperity?

But then again, Rangsi isn’t exactly a voice of reason or relevance. The man is a failed politician leading a loser party — one that couldn’t win a single seat, and even lost its deposit in the Thai elections.

This is perhaps why he is reasoning as he does – it is the prerogative of losers to fail spectacularly rather than succeed modestly.

Seen in that light, Rangsi’s rant against Anwar makes perfect sense — it’s perhaps just another example of inveterate loser choosing to lose loudly instead of win quietly.

If Rangsi were a winner, he would have thanked Anwar for helping to craft a win–win peace between Thailand and Cambodia, instead of sounding like his pride is hurt because his country had emerged a winner.

Thankfully, the Thai people seem to be able to clearly tell what a loser Rangsi is.

It is only losers that cannot appreciate winning such a thing as peace, and would rather go to a war and make everybody into losers.

Their rejection of Rangsi at the ballot box speaks volumes of their good sense. They denied a harebrained general the chance to ruin Thailand — not just in its relations with Malaysia and Cambodia, but in every other aspect of national life.

CONTEXT NOTE

A recent remark by a retired Thai army general alleging that Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is a “spy” meddling in the Thai-Cambodian conflict has caused a stir in Malaysian political circles, prompting calls for diplomatic action.

The accusation was made by Major-General (Rtd) Rangsi Kitiyanasap, former chief of the Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Station (Channel 5), during a recent television interview. Rangsi claimed that Anwar, through the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, had caused economic losses to Thailand and allowed the United States to interfere in the country’s affairs.

Rangsi, who now leads the right-wing Economic Party in Thailand, has no representation in the Thai national assembly and is widely considered a political outsider. In response, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim dismissed the accusations, describing Rangsi as an “election loser” and “unintelligent” to be taken seriously. He noted that Rangsi comes from a party that, like Malaysia’s Pejuang, has never won an election.

Malaysian lawmakers also weighed in on the matter. Deputy Foreign Minister Mohamad Alamin told the Dewan Rakyat that Malaysia would not entertain comments from individuals without diplomatic authority. Alamin highlighted that Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had praised Anwar for his role in facilitating the peace talks, effectively debunking Rangsi’s “American spy” claim.

The Armed Forces chief, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, also condemned Rangsi’s statements, calling them “unfounded, unfair, and profoundly disappointing.” Nizam emphasized that the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord — signed on October 26 by the Thai and Cambodian prime ministers and witnessed by Anwar and US President Donald Trump — is a transparent, ASEAN-endorsed agreement focused on peace, security, and humanitarian cooperation.

To call another leader a traitor or spy without evidence demeans not the accused, but the accuser,” Nizam said, urging all officers, serving and retired, to uphold truth, fairness, and professionalism. He further noted that progress on the ground — including weapons withdrawals, de-mining operations, and the gradual return of border communities to normalcy — are the real markers of success, not “the noise of unfounded accusations.”

Rangsi’s controversial statements are part of a pattern of combative rhetoric. He has previously criticized Cambodia’s former prime minister Hun Sen, called for Thai military action against Cambodia, and attempted a return to politics through his newly formed party.

Despite the uproar, Malaysian officials reaffirm their commitment to ASEAN-led solutions and regional stability. The government continues to monitor the situation closely while focusing on the humanitarian and peacebuilding objectives that underpin the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.
