A social media influencer has asked the Human Resources Minister and HRDF board members to resign.
He congratulated the Public Accounts Committee’s revelations of some of the corrupt practices in its full report. PAC’s statement at a press conference in Parliament in this video.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has urged the Human Resources Ministry to study the need for the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) to be made into a statutory body.
PAC chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin made this call in a press conference in the Parliament today after the committee released a report on the government-linked company, highlighting numerous pressing issues.
“It should be made into a statutory body to ensure better governance by referring it to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), Public Service Department and the Finance Ministry,” said Mas Ermieyati.
“Who gave the HRDF top management to make investments in highly risky ventures at the expense of the taxpayers' money,” questioned Awtar Singh a popular social media influencer.
The money collected as a levy of four per cent from employers is unfair. “When I as a trainer don’t pay my 1 per cent HRDF sends me a threatening lawyer’s letter to sue me and this is unjustified. You were demanding these payments and blatantly spending on buying buildings at hiked-up prices according to the PAC report,” Awtar said in his TikTok video he posted on 4th July 2024.
His TikTok is titled: “HR Minister and HRDF board resign”.
Awtar called on MACC and police to investigate the wrongdoings of HRD Corp and that he would lodge a police report for the authorities to investigate.
“All top officials should resign immediately for the investigations to take place without fear of favour. Investigate the current HR and past HR ministers as to who is responsible for approving HRD Corp investments. Who is the minister who appointed the CEO to arrogantly not inform the Board of Directors on the risky investments,” Awtar added in his video.
He also commented on the lavish spending on HRD Corp’s lavish dinners, boot camps and National Training Week and paying heavily for celebrities like Batman and Superman. “Please HRD Corp this is not your father’s money. Be wise in your expenditure and don’t abuse public funds. All you officials must be caught or asked to resign.”
Awtar said the DAP HR Minister must also resign. “I am not going to pay the levy in future because you have misused millions paid by the public, employers and trainers. Please employers you must open your eyes and not pay the levy.”
Following COVID 19 training has been difficult. “Some of us had to close down our business and you, HRD Corp go and waste our money.
