Burnout is the feeling of depletion, cynicism, and emotional distance that results from a lack of impact.
In Malaysia, the ordinary rakyat, the prolonged political incompetence and the response by the politicians to the chronic depravation of an improved livelihood are putting an increasing overwhelming stress on every level of the ordinary rakyat.
Financial insecurity and the lack of support, factors most often heard about burnout in the workplace, schools and at home are now similarly inflicting the ordinary rakyat due to the fault of those supposedly tasked to govern and manage this country.
In general, the ordinary rakyat now feel a sense of hopelessness, frustration, and become disconnected with the country.
There is now a feeling of inadequacy and fear that this unity government, touted as the last bastion for the country to regain its past glories won’t meet the standards that they themselves have set and promised to the ordinary rakyat.
Anyway, this toxic political landscape, a sense of hopelessness, frustration and disconnection was built over time when the ordinary rakyat let the politicians roam freely in their political maneuverings without any accountability.
What should we, as the ordinary rakyat, do about this?
This burnout from the political landscape potentially can have a major impact on the well-being of the ordinary rakyat.
And the worry is that it is not going to stop there.
It could possibly lead to more severe mental health conditions.
And it could also potentially lead to the ordinary rakyat feeling unvalued, belittled, or unsafe or unfair or demeaning treatment by the government of the day.
Already, the burnout from the present political environment has left me feeling drained and unable to envision what comes tomorrow.
