A Cynical Take on the Latest Dignified Exit

Malaysian politics has given us many wonders over the decades — but nothing is quite as fascinating as the ritual known as the Honourable Resignation of Someone Who Claims to Be Completely Innocent.

Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, performed this art form beautifully when he resigned “to protect the image of the Madani government” from attacks he insists are baseless. The Vibes

It’s a bit like watching a sailor insisting the ship is perfectly seaworthy while quietly slipping into a lifeboat “just to avoid misunderstandings.”

According to the PolSec, he’s stepping down not because he did anything wrong — never! — but because malicious forces are apparently plotting to tarnish the government by tarnishing him. The Vibes

So the chivalrous thing to do, he says, is to leap off the deck and float away on a raft of moral purity.

The controversy? An alleged support letter recommending six contractors for the Muar Hospital project — a letter the Prime Minister himself later described as “vague” and “not an instruction.”The Vibes

Oh, vague support letters? Malaysia’s favourite bureaucratic species. They are like mythical creatures — everyone has heard of them, everyone knows what they imply, yet they always emerge wrapped in mystery, fluttering between “just a recommendation” and “please consider these guys lah.”

Then Rafizi Ramli entered the chat, demanding firm action, likely after cross-referencing the incident with an Excel spreadsheet titled “How Not to Run a Government.” The Vibes

When Rafizi takes the moral high ground, you can practically hear the political GPS recalculating.

The PolSec, sensing the weather turning, chose to disembark voluntarily.

But the question nags:

Why abandon ship if the hull is truly intact?

Because in our delightful political ecosystem, resignation is not a confession — it’s a performance. A way to signal moral nobility while subtly acknowledging that the waters around you are getting choppy.

Sure, the official narrative is that he wants the freedom to “defend himself.” The Vibes

Very admirable. Very heroic. Very… convenient.

But Malaysians have seen enough episodes of this long-running political soap opera to recognise the classic pattern:

Someone insists there’s no storm — yet opens an umbrella anyway.

Someone claims the ocean is calm — yet puts on a life jacket.

If the vessel is steady, why scramble for the emergency exit?

If the sky is clear, why duck for cover?

Perhaps the PolSec truly believes he is innocent. Perhaps he is simply trying to avoid splashing mud onto the Prime Minister’s crisp Madani baju Melayu.

Or perhaps — just perhaps — he spotted a wave coming long before the rest of us did.

In Malaysia, leaders rarely fall overboard.

They usually jump first, insisting the water is warm and they’ll be back once the weather clears.
