After the trouncing at the Sabah state elections, DAP and political analysts quickly fingered the lost was due to mainly lack of Chinese voters turnout as punishment for DAP’s deafening silence and subservient attitude on viable and concrete reforms , racial and religious extremism and lack of government financial aid for non-Bumiputera.
Anthony Loke went into damage control mode and took the blame of the loss onto himself. A noble and honorable gesture or was it because there was no other excuses and he knew it was coming after two years of continuous disgruntlement and complaints from DAP supporters.
Then Loke gave the six-month deadline to the Madini government, throwing down the gauntlet that the government must “show hope” within the six months. There is no specifics what hope is or any set objectives or deliverables to be achieved. The only specific was that it would not leave and bring down the government, which made the threat more of a tantrum.
It is a vague wishy-washy sound bite and double -talk and at the end of the six months everything and anything is up to Loke’s and DAP’s interpretation , convenience, and personal ambitions.
But the first thing , Loke and DAP demanded for reform from all this is a Chinese education issue, the Unified Examination Certificate(UEC). Loke even went as far to offer his resignation if his departure would lead to recognition
Since 2013, UEC’s recognition by the government been talked and bandied about without any resolution . Even DAP MP Teo Nie Ching, then Deputy Education Minister in 2018 have pledged to have UCE to be officially recognized before end 2018 but we all know this is bunkum.
DAP claims it is a multiracial party and indeed it has non-Chinese MPs and supporters amongst its ranks and the populace.
At this critical event changing juncture, DAP has shown it’s racial leanings and bias. There are numerous issues and reforms which are multi-racial at its core and principle. Funding for vernacular schools, financial aid for non-Bumiputera, more places in universities and institutions of higher learning for non- Bumiputera , funding for non- Muslim places of worship, absence of government censorship of extreme racial and religious provocations, to name a few.
How can DAP claim it is a multi-racial party when its first and forefront issue deals mainly with the Chinese? Where do the Indians, Malay and other ethnic issues and problems rank in having reforms done and getting fairness and equality?
Likely now, the Indians, Malays, and other ethnic groups will question are they and their rights put forth and represented and the question why Dr. P Ramasamy quitting DAP may become moot and relook into again.
Anwar claimed he is the Prime Minister to all Malaysians regardless of race and religion but his actions, policies and financial aid seems to point to pandering of the Malays who did not support him in the last election.
Loke is now pandering only to the Chinese who have dropped their support because of his silence and lack of backbone to stand up for DAP’s principles and election promises.
Both PKR and DAP are registered as multi-racial political parties but their leaders’ actions and words are otherwise.
Loke and DAP know a non-Malay Prime Minister is an unattainable dream and non-starter for many generations to come. But if Loke and DAP continues to arc towards the Chinese populace and Chinese related issues , then it will never materialize and remain unattainable.
DAP’s survival as a significant political entity will diminish too as the way of many single-race political parties.
DAP has to look into ending the racial game and represent and serve the various races that has brought them into power.
