Recently, the DAP secretary-general was quoted to have said that the leadership election in Umno and the upcoming state elections in 6 states will probably shape the future of the Malaysian government.
This statement again revealed to the rakyat that, once they have given their votes to the politicians, everything thereon will be always about the politicians themselves. Not the welfare and livelihood of the rakyat.
When they want our votes, they beg and promise the rakyat the sun and the moon. Once voted in, it is all about them and their own interests.
Dear Anthony, it is the rakyat that determines and shape the present and future government. Not the 2 events that you mentioned. The rakyat are wise up to the antics of the politicians that started with political `coup de tat’ in Feb 2020. Yes, during the initial few months, the rakyat were totally upset that their votes were ignored and not respected by all the politicians. Despite calls for their votes to be respected, no attempts were made to restore the rakyat’s votes and rights.
The rakyat have been patient for the last 30 years. And they will continue to be patient.
The results of the general elections in Nov 2022 where no political party or coalition emerged with a credible enough number of elected politicians is the rakyat telling you and the politicians not to take the rakyat for granted.
The rakyat is tired and being taken for granted by all the politicians in this country.
Political games and brinkmanship were being played without the rakyat’s knowledge and consent and always at their expense. Games were still being played at the rakyat’s expense in the formation of the present government of which you are a part now.
Deals were being struck for expediency purposes between opponents who before the formation of the present government condemned each other during the general election much to the chagrin of the voters.
The rakyat again was taken for a ride post the 15th General election.
And again, politicians in this country showed to the rakyat that morality and integrity don’t exist in their vocabulary, be it from the ruling coalition or the opposition. Trust is not even a word in their political life except when they want the rakyat’s votes.
It’s coming to almost 2 months from the day where Anwar announced that he has given the Chief Secretary and all the top brass in the civil service 2 weeks to come out with a plan to address the rising costs of living, and the rakyat is still waiting with hunger for that plan that appeared to have evaporated even before it materialize as a public announcement.
In the intervening period, feel-good announcements that do not improve the lives of the ordinary rakyat were made. E.g toll-free for the first 2 days of the Chinese New Year on all highways. Already a lot of families in the B40 group are struggling to buy eggs, a basic food item in most families let alone travel on the highways. Thus the toll-free announcement only benefits those who are better off and still can afford to buy eggs but not the larger portion of Malaysians who are in despair but not those in the B40 group.
If you and your colleagues in the Cabinet continued in its present trajectory, just plain talking only, for sure you will find it not only difficult to retain control of the states but your political coalition might even be staring at some loss when elections are held for the 6 states.
Why bonuses for civil servants are exempted from tax?
What about workers in the private sectors? Shouldn’t their bonuses, if there is any, be similarly exempted too?
Those in the civil service are assured of a job with a steady and confirmed salary.
For those in the private sector, job certainty is not assured.
Some could probably lose their livelihood soon given the uncertainties affecting the country presently and in the near future.
Anwar publicly said policies of the previous governments only benefit a select few.
In introducing this exemption – a clear discriminatory preference – Anwar is practicing what he condemns the previous successive governments were doing.
You said you are not Superman and you asked the people to give the government more time in relation to improving public transport in the country.
Yes, the rakyat is aware but is now asking you how much more time?
The rakyat is also asking you and your colleagues in the Cabinet how much more time all of you need with regards to addressing and alleviating the rising costs of living affecting the rakyat?
How the government responds and the type of action plans implemented will determine and shape the government which you are in now.
