Did Khairy `mock’ his President on his address at UMNO’s General Assembly with his comments labelling it a speech by a “prime minister in waiting”?
"Sir, you just deliver a speech befitting a Prime Minister”.
Political differences aside, it is outrageous.
His timely `praise’ carries an underlying layer of indirect mockery or strategic calculation.
This is not about party politics or personalities.
Khairy may want to please Zahid but saying such a statement shows a disingenuous attempt by Khairy in mocking the President of his party, subtly.
The dignity of the Presidential Office MO is not optional.
It must be protected at all times, by everyone who is a member of UMNO.
In Malaysian politics, labeling someone a "Prime Minister in waiting" is historically a double-edged sword, often associated with leaders who spend years on the cusp of power without ever attaining it.
It is public knowledge that ee openly opposed Zahid's leadership.
He famously ran against Zahid for the UMNO presidency in 2018.
Even though Zahid retained his seat in Bagan Datuk and Khairy lost in his contest in Sg Buloh, after the 2022 General Election, Khairy led the call, saying the general must take responsibility for losing the war, for Zahid's resignation.
In Jan 2023, he was sacked from UMNO for violating party discipline.
Prior to his sacking, he reportedly made a claim publicly that “imported delegates” were “brought in” at a recent Umno general assembly to manipulate voting.
12 years ago, in December 2014, Khairy, the then UMNO Youth Chief called an UMNO branch leader the "lowest of the low" and the "lowest form of creature" in the party after the branch leaders publicly told PM6 to step down.
Defending PM6, Khairy dismissed the critic stating that the branch leader had previously challenged him for the UMNO Youth chief position and received no votes and thereafter
held no official position in the party.
Then 4 years later, in 2018, immediately after BN lost the 15th GE, he famously said he regretted not telling PM6 the truth.
Was his overt praise a calculated move for his political survival?
He has never hidden his desire to return to UMNO rather than forming a new party.
With his praise it is clear that he is playing along with the current leadership hoping that in the process, it will allow him to rebuild his political career from within while maintaining his signature public persona.
People may try to hide who they are or pretend to change, but their inner self and true behavior will always remain the same.
Should ordinary Malaysians put all their faith into the very person who switches his allegiance like changing shirts?
If ordinary Malaysians and voters expect him to change, they are setting themselves up for disappointment.
Tun Dr Mahathir's return to power in 2018 serves as a stark example of this sentiment for many Malaysians.
Right after he was appointed a 2nd time as the PM, he quickly revealed that his fundamental political instincts remained unchanged.
Old habits—such as consolidating executive power, favoring specific economic policies, maintaining racial political dynamics, and engaging in deep-seated political rivalries re-emerged.
