Anwar was quoted to have said that from the very beginning, he thought and believe Mahathir would have kept his promise of handing over the baton to him.
Now he knows as he didn’t know earlier.
What Anwar said in the interview in July 2020 was relevant. He said in that interview that he has many enemies and he also knew many were against him becoming the Prime Minister. Many billionaires whom he knows and those corrupted ones are against him becoming Prime Minister. He also said that these people are playing the racial card by saying Anwar is not very Malay and he does not protect the Malays.
Either Anwar is an old hand and very apt in reading and understanding the game of politics in Malaysia, despite staying out of it for like 11 years while he was residing in his 2nd home in Kajang Prison, or Mahathir’s game plan is so predictable, what Anwar said in July 2020, even though he did not get to be Prime Minister as agreed, is spot on.
Within 100 days of administering this country, the attack against Anwar using the formula that he said will be used against him if he is to become the Prime Minister came fast and furious.
The first wild allegation is that the government he led, even though has a majority of Malay as Cabinet Minister, is multiracialism. That this multiracialism Cabinet is racist as the policies proposed and implemented to-date are for every ordinary rakyat and not targeted specifically to the Malay, the section of the rakyat that need the help the most.
Yes, no one deny but actually acknowledged that in this country, the Malays are faced with many problems.
But it was not the fault of others.
The problems faced by the Malay did not surface or created overnight. It was already there before 1970 which led Mahathir to write the Malay Dilemma. All these years for more than 50+ years, the country was governed by a coalition led by UMNO, a party whose membership are opened only to the Malays. Every law abiding citizens of this country abided and live by and with the laws and regulations set by the government that has long been dominated by UMNO for the last 50 years.
And Mahathir was the leader of UMNO – old and new – for the most part of these 50 years.
The declarations are nothing new.
Mahathir said the same thing of UMNO in his book, the Malay Dilemma published in 1970 that the elites in UMNO was too enamored by the trappings of wealth and fame leaving the ordinary Malay and members of UMNO found wanting. Then he was given the chance to lead the country and implement the shortcomings he propounded in the Malay Dilemma.
But he did nothing.
Instead all those who succeeded him as President of the party and as Prime Minister of the country created and caused all the problems that the Malays are facing now.
Under this circumstance where he can’t even change anything when he has the power and was in a position to change it, does further talk and issuing public declaration helps?
Before this present multiracial government, the country was governed by a Cabinet that has almost 100% Malays for almost 2 years. Did that previous 2 governments under PM8 and PM9 stopped or reversed those problems faced by the Malays?
After living through all these years with Mahathir at the helm for the most part, 32 million Malaysians now shared the same view as what Anwar said in his interview in July 2020.
32 million Malaysians called it as they see it.
Mahathir 'cheated' all of us too.
