I note with dismay and total disappointment with most politicians in this country.
Most of these politicians just reaffirmed and confirmed what most voters perceived them to be – greedy and selfish.
All joined politics for themselves and their families or cronies or friends.
None really sincerely joined to fight for the ordinary rakyat and the country.
In a radio interview recently, the Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister's Office, warned that the country is entering a rare "supply-side crisis" where the government cannot simply spend their way out of it, unlike previous downturns because this time, the government cannot buy something that are not there.
According to him, Malaysia may begin seeing the effects more visibly around June and July, when many manufacturers and businesses are expected to exhaust their existing raw material stockpiles followed by production stoppages, no overtime work for the workers, shift reductions etc.
A supply-side crisis directly restricts a country's ability to produce or deliver goods and services, resulting in higher production costs, supply shortages, and reduced overall economic output (Real GDP).
Unlike demand-side crises where people just stop spending money, you cannot simply "spend your way out" of a supply crisis because the goods simply aren't there.
We have become so used to global supply chains that we barely think about them.
But almost every product we consume arrives on our doorstep courtesy of a global network of firms each feeding their components into the finished product.
The government assured Malaysians that there is sufficient fuel to last until Dec 2026.
Yes, there are plenty of petrol available, but are there enough drivers to deliver it?
The government is assuming that there would not be any shortage of drivers.
At the present even without this supply side crisis, the trucking industry faces a persistent driver shortage that threatens supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
What more when the supply side crisis begins to impact us in June and July as projects by the PM’s office?
How would this impact Malaysians – the ordinary rakyat?
Businesses will pass their higher logistical and operational costs onto customers.
This creates widespread "cost-push" inflation, making everyday essentials like groceries, electricity, and transport significantly more expensive.
Shelves empty quickly, resulting in stock outages and rationing.
Hoarding and panic buying can further exacerbate the scarcity.
To avoid bankruptcy and survive reduced supply availability, businesses may freeze hiring, cut discretionary pay, or lay off workers.
Even if there are no job losses, the real value of citizens' savings drops.
Income doesn't go as far as it used to, leading to a general decline in the standard of living.
The government can shield Malaysians from severe hardship with subsidies, price controls, or tax cuts on essential goods but these measures only further burden the country further with increased debts.
Long term infrastructure may have to be shelved.
Upgrading of essential infrastructure services have to be shelved.
These are the issues – real and not imaginary issues – that 34 million ordinary Malaysians will face within the next 2 months.
And then in the face of this `tsunami’ targeted to arrive in a month’s time, we have the politicians, the same politicians who said whatever they are doing, they are doing it for Malaysians, are planning and staging coups and counter coups amongst each other, where their objective is solely to seize power.
Instead of planning how to seize power in the midst of an impending crisis, they can always sit down and offer their assistance to the government on ways on how they can help to alleviate and ease the impending crisis that will hit all ordinary Malaysians.
Such selfish and greedy politicians.
They know who they are.
Hope they can live with their conscience hereinafter for the remainder of their life.
