Remember when Rafizi Ramli used to thunder about cronies, contracts, and corrupt connections? The man practically had a PhD in political indignation. He was the conscience of PKR — armed with spreadsheets, moral outrage, and PowerPoint slides that could make even Najib sweat.
Well, guess what? The reformasi warriors have gone corporate. And leading the charge is none other than Farhash Wafa Salvador — once Anwar Ibrahim’s loyal political secretary, now the proud chairman of a company that just bagged a RM732.72 million contract to supply… wait for it… MyKads. MalaysiaNow
Yes, your humble blue IC — the same one you use to vote, apply for BR1M, and get scolded by government clerks — now comes with a RM732 million price tag.
But don’t worry, it’s a “next-generation MyKad.” It probably glows in the dark, tracks subsidies, and maybe even whispers “Madani” when you swipe it.
Six months ago, Farhash bought 462 million shares in MMAG Holdings for RM184.8 million. MalaysiaNow
That’s a lot of zeroes for someone who used to hang around the corridors of PKR HQ.
The ink on that Bursa Malaysia filing hadn’t even dried when NexG Berhad (formerly Datasonic, déjà vu anyone?) became a major shareholder of MMAG. MalaysiaNow
And just like that — abracadabra — contracts started appearing faster than Rafizi’s election promises.
Now, the Home Ministry has awarded NexG not one but two jackpots — RM1.73 billion for passports and RM732 million for MyKads. MalaysiaNow
Apparently, NexG’s new slogan should be: “From passports to politics — we secure identities and opportunities.” (It's better than the old UMNO's colloquial acronym "Unlimited Money N Opportunities!")
And where’s Rafizi in all this? The man who once accused Farhash of being too ambitious, too close to power, too... something. Back then, Rafizi’s complaint sounded like jealousy. Today, it sounds like prophecy. He must be kicking himself for not buying shares when they were still 40 sen apiece.
But of course, all of this is purely coincidental. After all, in Malaysia, billion-ringgit government contracts always end up in the hands of people with absolutely no political connection whatsoever. It’s just one of those Madani miracles.
The official justification? NexG is providing a “next-generation upgraded MyKad” that will help Malaysians receive fuel and other subsidies. How patriotic!
Finally, we can enjoy subsidised RON95 while knowing our IC was supplied by a friend of the Prime Minister.
Maybe that’s the new definition of Madani economics: “Reformasi for the rakyat, profitability for the pals.”
So the next time Rafizi talks about corruption, maybe someone should gently remind him — MyKad now comes with a Farhash stamp of authenticity.
After all, nothing says Malaysia Boleh quite like a RM732 million ID card that reminds us who really holds the keys to identity — and opportunity.
