Recently, in a letter titled Society’s expectations of MACC, you wrote that, reproduced ad verbatim here, `Accountability is the bedrock of our struggle, but it loses all moral authority the moment it is perceived as selective or politically choreographed. We must ask the difficult questions: why does the weight of scrutiny seem to fall disproportionately on those within our ranks who represent differences of opinion?
It doesn’t just raise eyebrows. It erodes the public’s trust in the very institutions we pledged to fix.
However, public confidence in our institutions is fragile and must be continuously earned through consistent and impartial action. I am deeply troubled by recent developments and the growing public perception that Rafizi Ramli is being subjected to a selective investigation’.
Wow big words.
Idealistic and hypocrisy in one sentence.
If that was penned by someone else, probably it will pass off unnoticed by the public.
But you?
You are not an ordinary member of the public.
You are the Deputy President of PKR, the party that, even though doesn’t command the most number of seats in Parliament, anchor the Pakatan Harapan political coalition and also the present Madani government.
And the President of PKR is the present Prime Minister.
The Chief Commissioner of MACC reports to the Prime Minister.
Action speak louder than words.
There is no necessity to talk, just let the action speak for itself.
Rakyat will be able to understand without explanation.
Society has been calling for the reform of MACC for a long time and soecity’s expectation of that happening was at its highest when the President of PKR was tasked to lead the nation in Nov 2022.
It was a test and an opportunity for the President of PKR to keep to his promises and aspiration for a better Malaysia.
You were right when you said real reform requires structural change, including review of the MACC Act, stronger institutional safeguards and genuine accountability to Parliament.
Did the President of your party and also the Prime Minister tasked anyone to undertake those structural changes since his appointment as the Prime Minister 3.5 years ago?
It was the collective will of a majority of Malaysians that contributed partly to PKR and its President being appointed to lead and govern this country.
Yes, majority of Malaysians are now aware and truly knows that change, any, happened because of us, the ordinary rakyat.
We are not walking away.
We will stay engaged and ensure change will happen in the next General Election.
We want the leaders of PKR to say – we should listen to the voices of the ordinary rakyat – on the midnight of the election day of the next GE.
