Is Boris Johnson putting on a `show' for the public or it is true modesty and humility of him as he travels in a train with a luggage in his hand and a backpack?
I believe a majority of Malaysians wish our politicians would take a cue from him.
In this country, once you are a politician, then his / her and their future generations have made it for life.
Humility is when a person does not see himself as being better or above other people because of their past standing and position.
To some people, humility means having sense of modesty, or not behaving superior towards others. On the other hand, some would argue that being humble means that a person has a low opinion of themselves, or that a person is meek or timid.
At its core humility is the capacity to avoid getting wrapped up in one's own self importance.
If a person is humble then they are able to see themselves as unimportant.
The mark of a leader who practices humility is their treatment of others. Humble leaders treat everyone with respect regardless of position.
Being a humble leader means shifting attention away from yourself and continually recognising the contributions of others.
A sense of humility is essential to leadership because it authenticates a person’s humanity.
In this country, it is normal or in fact rare not to see former leaders moving around with a phalanx of people, be it their assistants, security details or hanger-on whenever they appear in public.
Let alone they take their own bags or luggage and travelling with public transportation.
In their place are the white or black colored Toyota Alphards or the customary BMW or Mercedes Benz that comes with a security detail and a driver.
Public transportation is a big NO NO for former politicians in their travel around the country.
Heads do not roll when things go drastically wrong.
Not even when lives are lost.
Rarely, they admit it is their fault and put things right when things go wrong.
Boris Johnson might be a bit of all the above but at least post his last position as the PM of UK, he has shown humility publicly, a rare trait for former leaders in this country.
