On October 15, 2026, party co-founder and major figure Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was detained by JAIS on suspicion of khalwat (close proximity).
The scandal has dealt a crushing moral and reputational blow to a brand built on reformist values.
Bersama's initial political momentum has completely stalled under the weight of severe electoral losses.
And now this?
Worse is that the issue is on one of the 2 co founders of the party.
Before this issue, its next performance in Melaka will officially determine if the party can recover or if it is truly dead on arrival.
It looks like after this latest issue, Bersama will limp in to the elections in Melaka.
Public scrutiny has now shifted to Rafizi Ramli, one of the 2 co founders of Bersama.
Does he have or he will be engulfed in a scandal waiting to be exposed or unravel?
Already, Rafizi is presently navigating severe political fire, dealing with active anti-corruption investigations and multi-million ringgit defamation lawsuits.
While Nik Nazmi’s crisis was an unforeseen personal lapse in judgment, Rafizi’s "dark secrets" are highly public, systemic, and financial battles.
His vulnerability does not lie in a sudden hidden exposure, but in whether the MACC investigations or the RM10 million defamation trial find concrete legal traction against him.
If just one sticks, it could definitively seal the fate of Parti Bersama.
Before the scandal broke, Bersama’s leadership conceded that winning seats in the elections in Melaka was unlikely, stating that the goal was simply to cross the 12.5% vote share threshold to retain candidate deposits.
Now that a co-founder has admitted to a major moral lapse, Bersama loses the high ground. Because Bersama marketed itself as a morally pure "political startup" free of political baggage, Nik Nazmi's admission of guilt will heavily damage Parti Bersama's campaign in the upcoming Melaka state election.
Progressive or fence-sitting voters may choose to stick with the status quo or vote for other opposition alternatives rather than risk backing a compromised brand.
It is expected that BN and PH will heavily leverage on the issue of Nik Nazmi in the election in Melaka to paint Bersama's top leadership as hypocritical, devastating the party's appeal among conservative Malay voters.
Is it time to say sayonara to Bersama?
