At the #TangkapAzamBaki rally earlier, Rafizi announced that he might start a new party in June.
“I promised friends that I would make a decision in June after discussing with them,” he told reporters while attending an anti-Azam Baki rally in Dataran Merdeka last Saturday.
“My decision will have an impact on my friends at the Parliament and division level. Hence it is something that we need to assess together. This isn’t about being power hungry, we just want to see changes.”
I think Rafizi might have made the announcement to test waters - to see how the public will receive his new party.
That be the case, this is my 2 cents worth on the subject.
I think if Rafizi starts a new party, it will be received positively by a significant number of people.
The support his new party will receive will be so significant , that I really do think it has a good chance - a great chance even - to cause Anwar to be defeated in the next election .
But if you ask me whether Rafizi will be able to win the next election and form the next government, I don't think anyone can say that for certain.
I think that the result of the next election is not going to be settled at the ballot box. It is not going to be settled by the ballot box, because there is not going to be any single party or coalition that will emerge as a clear winner of the next election. The result of the next election thus, will most likely be determined by negotiations between the participating parties and coalitions after the election is over.
As to whether Rafizi will come on top of the negotiations, only heaven knows.
Anyway, the fact that Rafizi has announced that he MAY start a new party in June is about as good as saying that he WILL start a new party in June.
Since Rafizi looks set to start a new party in June, I think as the rakyat, we should start indicating that if something were to happen to rafizi between now and the next election - if he was struck by lightning even - we are not going to see it as business as usual or an act of fate.
Rafizi starting a new party is going to be a threat to some very powerful people - look at what happened to his son last year - so unless the rakyat really insists that we are not going to let the matter slide if something unfortunate were to happen to rafizi, I think there is be a really good chance that Rafizi might meet a lot of bad luck from now till election time.
To prevent that, I think we should start telling the government , in our own way, that perhaps it should go an extra mile to ensure that nothing untoward happens to Rafizi , at least until the next election is over, or else we shall hold it accountable.
If Rafizi wants to start his own party to stand for election then he should be able to start his own party and stand for election, and everybody should just leave it to the the people to decide about what we are going to do with Rafizi's offer.
P/S: According to reports, the next election will likely be called this October , which is just 5-6 months away.
