In a world where technology and rational thinking dominate, it's bewildering to witness the resurgence of peculiar methods to determine the worthiness of political leaders.

One such instance is the recent video circulating on social media in Kedah, where a bird named "Awang" is asked to decide whether the Caretaker Menteri Besar, Sanusi, is fit to lead the state.

While it may seem comical, this bizarre act holds a deeper significance. It reflects the growing trend of appealing to superstitions and baseless beliefs instead of relying on informed judgment and critical thinking. We find ourselves at a crossroads where the decision-making process is being relinquished to a creature with a brain much smaller than our own.

The "Awang" video is reminiscent of the peculiar incident in Germany where an octopus in a glass tank was consulted to predict World Cup winners. The octopus gained popularity due to its uncanny ability to "predict" the victorious team, but in reality, it was a mere coincidence. Much like the octopus, the bird "Awang" cannot possibly possess any political insight or understanding of governance. Its choice between "TIDAK BAGUS" and "BAGUS" is a random peck that carries no more weight than a flip of a coin.

We must question the rationale behind seeking guidance from such methods. Politics is a realm that demands critical analysis, scrutiny of policies, and an evaluation of a leader's track record. Relying on a bird to decide the future of a state is nothing short of absurd.

The responsibility of selecting political leaders lies with the people, the voters, who have the power to shape the destiny of their state or country. It is our duty to engage in thoughtful discussions, analyze candidates' performance and proposals, and make informed decisions that align with the greater good of society.

Superstitions and gimmicks, like the "Awang" video, undermine the democratic process and trivialize the importance of governance. They reduce serious political matters to a mere spectacle, overshadowing the real issues that affect the lives of the people.

Sanusi's popularity should not be for the birds. Instead, it should be a result of his leadership qualities, vision for the state, and ability to address the challenges faced by the people of Kedah. Let us refrain from indulging in such antics and instead focus on substantive discussions about the future of our state.

As citizens, we must engage in constructive dialogue, demand transparency and accountability, and participate actively in the democratic process.

It is only through such responsible and informed actions that we can pave the way for a prosperous and progressive Kedah.

In conclusion, let us not allow our political discourse to be reduced to absurdity. The fate of our state should not be left to chance or the pecking of a bird. It is time to elevate the level of our political discussions and uphold the values of democracy, reason, and progress for the betterment of Kedah and its people.
