PRN is done and dusted, now each state are appointing their EXCO lineup, and as usual, there are unhappy quarters. Suddenly there is a surge in the number of self-declared political analyst (myself included, hahaha). Allow me to share some of my thoughts about the recent PRN.
1. Some UMNO are saying that they lost badly because of DAP. Some UMNO are saying that they lost because of Zahid. Police and army votes that were once UMNO's strong voter base went to PN, the opposition coalition. UMNO needs to do some soul searching/revamp, but is still in a better position to stay with PH than to join PN.
2. PAS and DAP are touted as the 'extremist' parties by both sides of the polarized political spectrum, yet has the strongest voter base in the country. While this is good for 'winning' -- it is pretty alarming that Malaysians are becoming more intolerant towards each other. The space for compromise is shrinking at an alarming pace because the idea/picture of a 'better Malaysia' is very different among different communities. (Btw ... I think DAP not extreme, maybe only one or two individuals).
3. PKR is also in a conundrum, something went wrong in the Madani and Perpaduan messaging. Although DSAI did not say this, but perhaps he is thinking 'apa lagi melayu mau'.
4. MUDA lost deposit in all their contested seats, but gained political experience, maybe some of the idealism and brashness will be toned down?
5. Sanusi is the epitome of the Malay hero, defending race and religion. But I'm not too sure why is there a need to defend Islam, surely Islam is above Sanusi and not a OKU that needs protection.
While there are no perfect coalitions and political parties, I believe that Malaysia has become more politically mature, we are SLOWLY learning the art of compromise, which is commonplace in any democracy. Take heart my friend, all is well.
