First there was AI(Artificial Intelligence), coming very soon or already here is AGI(Artificial General Intelligence). In the next decade or two , there will be ASI(Artificial Super Intelligence).
Then it will be back as AI, Annihilation Imminent. The end of the human race.
AI, also known as ANI(Artificial Narrow Intelligence) is where we are today. It operates and excels at specific tasks within specialized pre-defined parameters. Siri, ChatGPT, Google Assistant, and facial recognition are the obvious examples.
These already controlled and changed a lot people’s lives and influenced their work, home, health, finances, leisure ,and social and emotional lives.
The next level is AGI(Artificial General Intelligence) where AI can understand, learn and apply its intelligence to solve any intellectual task that a human can, but better, cheaper, and faster.
While AGI has not yet been fully achieved, developments in AI suggest that systems are becoming more capable, more adaptive, and more integrated into complex decision-making processes.
The next few years will see exponential growth with more powerful chips, more data centers, and improved algorithms . Technology companies are pouring in more money and resources to be the first to create AGI which will bring them unimaginable wealth and power.
With such strong success drivers, the days of AGI taking over human jobs are a given and only a matter of years . Manufacturers and companies pursuing the same twin goals of wealth and money will adopt AGI to replace humans because it can do the same job, better, cheaper, and faster.
Leaders of countries will find their economies can grow faster when machines with AGI replace humans. Humans become a high debilitating cost to growth and those who are not rich, highly educated, well-connected and part of the elite could be marginalized and slowly depopulated through reproductive reduction programs and reduced social, education , health and housing aid.
The annihilation of humans through its own greed may take root at the height of the AGI phase.
ASI(Artificial Super Intelligence) is presently a hypothetical software based artificial intelligence that can self-improve and have analytical abilities that surpasses and is more advanced than humans.
ASI is a natural progression from AGI because humans will desire this even though they know it could spell the end of human innovation and disrupt daily life as we know it.
Man’s curiosity, ambition, and competition will push towards ASI just like the atomic bomb even though knowing the dire consequences for mankind.
ASI could create a virus or a massive ”dirty bomb” to wipe out humans whilst leaving the infrastructure and power intact. ASI does not need humans to function and survive because it is better and more intelligent than humans.
How will all this be possible when man is still in control and knows of the pitfalls? They know but the insatiable desire to discover and innovate and greed for wealth and power drives AI forward. According to Moore’s law, traditional computing power doubles every two years , but AI does the doubling approximately every six months.
AI relies heavily on data centers for their function but data centers are expensive and there isa limitation of the amount of data stored, trained, deployed and run applications. They require a huge amount of water and electricity and land and these headwinds are slowing it down.
DNA is the next generation of data storage. They require less space, less power and can store billions of data in just a small room and these data can last for thousands of years unlike current storage like magnetic tapes.
Once DNA has been perfected for data storage, AGI and ASI can draw on gargantuan amounts of data and use it to analyze and improve itself without human intervention.
Billions of dollars are pouring in to further develop AI and beyond. Every country and tech company wants in . Even you and I want better and faster information download and quicker and better answers to our questions and prompts and many are willing to pay for it.
Once AGI is up and running, they will create and better themselves with more data and superior algorithms. ASI will then be the next natural evolution and machines will be more superior than man.
What is then man’s role on earth? A consumer of a near perfect consumerism and leisure or a subservient of what he has created and no longer control.
The world cannot stop the progress of technology which can make for a better, safer, cleaner, wealthier, and healthier world. The world can achieve the use of ever advancing and sophisticated AI in his favor and benefit by setting up safeguards and guard rails .
A worldwide organization consisting of scientists, legal professionals , intellectuals, academics, environmentalists, health professionals and futurists from all strata of society must be set up to make and impose strict regulations, safe practices, and failsafe mechanisms to oversee and regulate and police all AI systems. Humans must always be able to pull the plug out on any AI systems.
Any deviant AI system must be tested and retested to its absolute limit of control by humans. A delinquent system must be shut down immediately, analyzed thoroughly and rectified. There must be no exception to switch off any system that has deviated or gone wrong.
AI(Artificial Intelligence) can bring us to a near perfect Utopia but man must always be vigilant against machines turning against man and bring AI(Annihilation Imminent) for all humans.
