If you ask the Malays who their leader is, they will say it is a Malay.
The Chinese will also say that their leader is another Chinese.
But if you ask the Indians who their leader is, they will not say it is an Indian—instead, they might have to say it is a Malay.
Why?
Because Anwar somewhat just declared that he wants to be the leader of the Indians in our country today.
"Previously, I had asked Ramanan to look after these matters, but from now on, not only Mitra, but all issues involving the Indian community will be taken over and monitored by me personally.
“Ramanan will, of course, continue to carry out the tasks and programmes that have been decided, but I will personally ensure that issues affecting the community are given due attention." Anwar said at a dinner programme with the community in Seremban tonight.
Anwar also apologised for previously using the term “kuil haram” (illegal temples) when discussing the issue, saying that he accepted the mistake.
“Since I became prime minister, I have never demolished even one old temple. None. There are regulations.
“So, if I said that a temple was illegal, I have to apologise. That was a technical mistake. I accept the mistake,” he said, as if he really trying very hard to be the first Malay leader of Indians in our country.
This is all very odd, so very odd, isn't it?
The Malays don't accept Anwar as their leader, so Anwar is now deciding to be the leader of the Indians?
Everyday, our country is becoming more and more bewildering and complicated. If our country was a person, it would probably needs psychiatric help by now.
But as odd as it might be for the Indians to have a Malay as their leader, a Malay might be the only person who can be the leader of the Indians today.
Why?
Because the Indians in our country will never accept another Indian as their leader.
Why?
Because that is how angry we are with ourselves. If any Indian tries to become the leader of the Indians today, they will not be able to handle it, because they will have to bear with an overwhelming amount of anger and hatred from the Indian community.
If a Malay becomes the leader of the Indians, however, maybe we will not direct so much anger and hatred towards him, because he is not one of us.
No matter how much anger and hatred Anwar has to bear for being the leader of the Indians—and he will have to bear a lot of anger and hatred because the Indians have a lot of anger and hatred in our hearts—it is still much less than the anger that Ramanan or any other Indian leader would have to bear as the leader is the Indians.
But can Anwar, a Malay, genuinely be the leader of the Indians?
Can a cat be the leader of squirrels, or a rhinoceros be the leader of elephants?
Heck, I don't know. I find all this to be strange, so very strange....
But as strange as it may be, I can't dismiss it as unworthy.
I can't, because as strange as it is for the Indians to have a Malay leader, a Malay leader might be the only possible leader we can have, because we are 100 percent not going to accept an Indian leader. That is for sure.
