The 2, who are on trial in Switzerland's top criminal court currently have been accused of creating a sham oil exploration company through which they stole more than US$1.8 billion in 1MDB funds and Swiss state prosecutors are seeking a 10-year sentence for Tarek and a 9-year jail term for Mahony.
In Malaysia, where this scam originates from, except for the former Prime Minister Najib Razak who was charged and is presently on trial for the shenanigans in 1MDB, only 2 other Malaysians were charged and are presently on trial.
None of those perpetrators dubbed as the so called inner circle of the alleged central character were arrested and charged.
In fact, all fled the country for fear of arrests when the BN government lost the general elections in 2018.
Even though some do return to the country later, no criminal charges were proffered against any of them as they turned prosecution witnesses in the trial against Najib.
Whereas for those foreigners who conspired with the Malaysians in stealing from the tax payers in this country, the authorities investigated, arrested and charged them in their home countries.
E.g in Singapore, jail sentences for those who conspired with the Malaysians were swiftly meted out and in fact some of them have already completed their sentences and released.
These foreigners did not steal from the tax payers in their own country.
They were in this scam for their own personal benefits.
Looking into this country and the actions or perceived inactions by the Malaysian government on those who initiated and perpetrated the 1MDB scam, they must have been wondering why they did not apply or seek for themselves to be naturalized from the then Prime Minister.
Probably at that time, they thought and believed that they are invincible and protected and should shit hits the fan, only Malaysians would be affected and not them.
Little did they know that the long arms of the law in their own home country would knock on their doors one of those days.
Malaysians do not coined the term 'Malaysia Boleh' for fun.
