On August 2, 2026, Datuk Ismail Lasim from UMNO was sworn in as the new Menteri Besar by Tuanku Muhriz himself pledging to uphold the sovereignty of the Yang Dipertuan Besar, preserve the dignity of the royal institution and defend the principles of the Federal Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Negeri Sembilan.
Hidden behind the public’s view, one day after he pledged allegiance to the Yang Di Pertuan Besar, the new Mentri Besar, signed a proclamation to remove the Yang Di Pertuan Besar.
Wow, the allegiance lasted less than a day.
So much for it’s worth.
The proclamation was hidden from the public’s view and knowledge until the 4 Undangs issued a joint statement on 5 Sept 2026 at which they showed a document dated Aug 3, that was said to have been signed by the newly appointed MB and the 4 Undangs under Article 10(2) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 that allegedly contained a proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Within the same day ie 5 Sept 2026, the newly appointed Menteri Besar, stating that he took note of the statement issued by the 4 Undangs earlier, in a statement, expressed full support for and pledged allegiance to Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
Then, 4 days later, on 9 Sept 2026, the newly appointed MB issued a statement admitting that he did signed the document but he did it “unwillingly and under coercion”.
Then on 15 Sept 2026, in a statement, the MB claimed he has no unilateral power to remove or vacate the position of the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar as the processes concerning it are specifically governed by the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 (UUTKNS 1959) and the principles of constitutional monarchy, instead of political or personal considerations.
On the next day, 16 Sept 2026, the state exco issued a statement declaring the proclamation removing Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang di-Pertuan Besar valid.
As if following a script, on the next day i.e 17 Sept 2026, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar told reporters that the state executive council, had in a meeting unanimously endorsed the proclamation removing Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Dipertuan Besar and has instructed the state secretary to proceed with the gazettement of the proclamation in accordance with the existing regulations.
Swore not once but twice, publicly pledging allegiance to the Yang Dipertuan Besar only to sign a proclamation to remove him and replace him the next day.
A person that was appointed to his post by 357,469 voters of Negeri Sembilan on 1 Aug 2026.
Is he a confused man?
The ordinary rakyat for sure is confused with his series of actions.
If the Mentri Besar can do this to Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as Yang di-Pertuan Besar, who can guarantee that he would not do the same to Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'ffar assuming his ascension to the position of Yang Di Pertuan Besar is officially and legally recognised?
