1. Instruct the Survey department and the education department to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the gulf of America in our maps and textbooks.
Considering that one of the first thing that Trump did on his first day back in office, was signing an order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, to follow suit on our side by applying the name change in our maps and textbooks, is a symbolic act that might go a long way in flattering Trump.
Reducing the Tariffs that are imposed on us and preventing it from going up could be a matter as simple as flattering Trump.
Of all the ways to flatter Trump and persuade him to put Malaysia in his good books, this might be the easiest, for it will likely receive the minimum amount of objection from any within or without the country.
2. Inform Trump that if Greenlanders are ok with it, we don’t see why he shouldn’t own Greenland
Trump looks like he is serious in wanting Greenland, and by the looks of it, he will get it.
It is hard to see how Denmark, which currently owns Greenland, is going to prevent Trump from taking Greenland from them, when they are a tiny nation with a population of less than 6 million, that lies more than 3000 kilometers away from Greenland.
Denmark might protest Trump wanting to take away Greenland from them, but it is highly unlikely that they will be able to do anything to prevent Trump from taking it from them, in the next 4 years.
If Trump has no qualms to hit the entire world with a tariff, he is not going to have any qualms seizing Greenland for America, and seeing that it is unlikely that Denmark will be able to do anything more that meekly protest his actions, we might as well say that we support Trump taking Greenland from himself, because it is going to happen anyway, regardless of whether we support it or not.
Our action might lead to Denmark taking umbrage against us, but who cares – our relationship with Denmark is so insignificant, that I doubt that we stand to lose anything even if Denmark takes such offense against it, that it refuses to have anything to do with us for the rest of eternity.
3. Plead for Palestine, instead of protesting for Palestine
One of the biggest problems that we have with Trump, other than our rapport with China, is that we have a reputation for speaking up for Palestine, even to the point of criticising Trump for his designs on Palestine.
According to Nazri Aziz, our former Ambassador to the US, it is because of our support for Palestine that PMX Anwar is likely the only leader of ASEAN nations that Trump has not spoken to since his inauguration.
I certainly doubt that Malaysians, especially the Malay Muslim majority, will ever be amenable to the notion of not supporting the Palestinian cause, but there is more than one way to support Palestinian cause.
Currently, Malaysia is standing up for the Palestinians by going ultra-hard in its criticism of Israel, as well as America, for its perceived support for Israel in its war against Palestine.
Rather than continue to support Palestine in this way, perhaps it is time that our government tries to show its support for Palestine, by appealing to the better side of the Americans, instead of denouncing their dark side.
Rather than continue to reproach the Americans as evil, heartless and cruel, for their support of Israeli action in Gaza, perhaps what our government should do appeal to the Americans, to see to it that the interest, welfare and prospect of Palestinians, is looked after, regardless of what plan that Trump has hatched up for Gaza.
In all likelihood, it might not be easy for our government to balance the sentiment of the majority of our population with Trump’s aim in Gaza, but we might not have to do all that much to incline Trump to look upon us with favour - Just a slight toning down in rhetoric, as well as show of willingness to appeal on behalf of the Palestinians instead of protesting on their behalf, might be enough to persuade Trump to put behind the turbulence in our past relationship, and look forward to building a better relationship in the future.
NOTE : Now reading this, some of you might take offense to the notion that we should just roll over and grovel to Trump just because he is twisting our arms, without showing the slightest regards to what is right, fair, good and moral.
To this, all that I will say is give me a break – we are definitely not that righteous, fair, good or moral people, to remonstrate with anyone about what is right, good, fair or ethical. We have had millions of foreign workers on our shores for decades, and for as long as we have had them, we have been twisting their arms to make them roll over and grovel to us.
If we didn’t see any reason why we stand up for what is right, fair, good and moral when it was us that was expecting others to roll over and grovel to us, I certainly don’t think we should start now, now that somebody more powerful than us is expecting from us what we expected from our foreign workers.
A thief can at least not be deemed completely hopeless, if he sees the thief that manages to steal from him, as his better. A thief is beyond redemption if he condemns the thief that manages to steal from him as a thief, although he himself is a thief.
In the same way, if we admire Trump for succeeding in twisting our arms, when we ourselves are people who have twisted the arms of millions of foreign workers, maybe the Trump administration might see some value in us, instead of dismissing us as completely worthless, delusional and irrational.
