Recently at an NGO event, the former President of the Bar Council shouted `what is wrong with Pakatan Harapan and shame on them’.
Pakatan failed to deliver on their promises?
Clear as daylight.
Making it worse was most of the promises were made by Pakatan themselves and not based on the demands from their supporters.
Following BN's footsteps, once in power, PH suddenly transformed themselves into the likeness of the ruling elite.
Who voted them in?
We, the voters.
Politicians from the ruling end and the opposition have a conceived mind that Malaysians are gullible folks and can be manipulated with ease.
Lies, betrayals and sellouts.
Where do they come from?
How much does BN and PH differ?
Zilch.
Why voters are to blame?
Most pay little attention to real politics.
Many vote irrationally and decide on the basis of social identities, partisan loyalties and those good at rhetorical games but not on competency and plans for the future direction of the country.
Many don’t understand the cause and long-term effects and generally favour policies that enhance their own wellbeing.
Generally, Malaysians have been propagandised, cowed, and treated with cynical disregard of their rights until they adore the parties and personalities whose boots are grinding their faces willingly, being sacrificed on the altar.
Their willingness to donate to a fund to help pay off a court fine for a politician when his conviction was for stealing tax payers monies is a clear example.
Voters more likely will elect incompetent leaders when they feel the previous one personally betrayed them or the alternative is worse.
E.g DAP and MCA continuously telling the voters that their alternative is PAS implementing hudud laws.
Now, some voters have this belief that they will not vote in future elections.
Do they understand that if they stop voting, it will help extreme and corrupt groups stay in power?
If voters want to break away from this cycle, they must be willing to switch sides, regardless of how well their representatives are performing, every 5 years.
Regardless of their performance and to maintain independence and avoid familiarity threats, voters MUST replace their representatives every 5 years.
Worried about continuity?
That is the least worry.
Whoever succeeds them in 5 years time will work doubly hard to perform and deliver better than their predecessors.
Voters should vote them out every 5 years until it is drained into the heads of all the politicians that their tenure is only for a maximum period of 5 years.
