A politician from UMNO claimed that despite the tensions between the parties during the Johor and Negeri Sembilan elections, ties between Umno and DAP in Penang remain cordial.
A statement that insults the intelligence of the ordinary voters.
In Johor, BN have a majority in the state legislature. DAP is in the opposition.
Despite BN having a majority with no real challenges, the reason why the BN government decided to dissolve the state assembly and call for an early election remains a mystery to many.
In Negeri Sembilan, both BN and PH does not have a simple majority to allow them to govern the state on their own.
A simple majority requires 19 seats.
Thus, both BN and PH collaborated to form the government.
BN announced that they no longer have confidence in the leadership of the previous MB who was from PKR and then announced that they have the support of assemblymen from PAS and Bersatu, who was in the Opposition then, to form a government and replaced the then Mentri Besar.
Even though BN and the other assemblymen did not succeed in their quest – reason being that the Yang Di pertuan Besar refused to grant and audience to meet them and decreed that the Mentri Besar continued in leading the then government – a thorn was already placed.
It was obvious that it is no longer tenable for the then Mentri Besar to continue governing and thus he decided to return and then seek a fresh mandate from the ordinary voters.
In Penang where a simple majority of 21 seats sufficed, BN only has a measly 2 seats.
Even if BN in Penang were to collaborate with PAS and Bersatu, who combined have 11 seats, they are still unable to mount a challenge against the government led by PH, who has 27 seats.
It was a non starter for any ambitious politicians from BN who wish to takeover the Penang government from PH.
Despite having only 2 seats, the PH government still appoint a representative from UMNO to the state’s Exco, helming the Rural Development, Agrotechnology, Food Security, and Entrepreneurship.
In Johor, prior to the recent election, PH has 14 assemblymen while BN has 40 seats.
A simple majority of 29 seats is sufficient for any political coalition to lead.
Did BN co-opt any representatives from PH into the Johor state government?
Nope.
Despite the political cooperation at the federal level.
Penang would have follow suit as to what happens in Negeri Sembilan if the combined cohort of BN, Bersatu and PAS has, say, 18 or 19 seats in the state assembly.
Then they could probably lure or entice assemblymen from other parties to join them in their endevour.
Fortunately, they don’t.
Otherwise Penangnites will have to take a day off from their busy schedules to dance to the tune of the politicians.
Dear politicians, don’t insult the ordinary voters la…we know how to count and do the arithmetic.
