In a stunning display of cynicism and self-importance, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has declared himself ready to share his supposedly invaluable ideas with every subsequent prime minister.
However, he laments that no one has approached him, conveniently ignoring the possibility that his ideas may not be as groundbreaking as he imagines.
In a thinly veiled attempt to inflate his own ego, Mahathir revealed that one of his successors had allegedly wanted to seek his counsel but failed to do so after assuming office. Whether this is a genuine case of missed opportunities or simply Mahathir's way of asserting his superiority is up for debate.
But let's not forget the infamous "cash is king" slogan of his successor, Najib Razak, whom Mahathir claims he advised against giving money. It's amusing how he conveniently portrays himself as the wise and experienced mentor, while implying that Najib foolishly ignored his sage advice. One can't help but wonder if Mahathir is more interested in bolstering his own image than actually offering meaningful guidance.
And of course, Mahathir couldn't resist taking a jab at Anwar Ibrahim, insinuating that he has some untold story. Incidentally, a movie about the latter is entitled "Anwar: the Untold Story".
It seems that Mahathir enjoys playing the role of a mysterious puppeteer, holding secrets over his political rivals to maintain his aura of influence and control.
Amidst his grandiose proclamations, Mahathir did manage to touch on a somewhat valid point. He urged the people not to elect leaders who are all talk and no action, emphasizing the need for problem-solving abilities.
However, it's ironic coming from someone who spent years in power and left behind a legacy of unresolved economic, political, and social issues.
His plea for Malays to change the government in the next state election is nothing short of a desperate attempt to remain relevant.
Mahathir cunningly inserts himself into the narrative, implying that only he possesses the wisdom to guide the Malays through their challenges. It's a classic move of self-promotion disguised as concern for the fate of the nation.
In the end, it's hard not to view Mahathir's remarks as anything other than a calculated performance to remind everyone of his perceived superiority and indispensability.
While he claims to offer ideas and methods, it's essential to question whether his motives truly lie in serving the nation or satisfying his own insatiable thirst for power and recognition.
