For years, the same UMNO haters have been writing the party’s political obituary. Every disagreement becomes a “crisis”. Every setback becomes “the end”. Every internal debate is presented as proof of collapse. Yet even as of today, UMNO is still standing, BN is still organising, and the political funeral some desperately wanted still has not happened.
Look at Melaka. With the state assembly dissolved, BN chairman Datuk Seri Zahid has given Melaka BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh the mandate to negotiate with political parties interested in cooperation. The outcome will go back to the central leadership for a final decision. That is election preparation, not political surrender.
Then look at the policy agenda. At PAU 2026, UMNO unveiled the Blue Malaysia Agenda, built around national wealth creation, human capital, innovation, higher incomes, equitable prosperity, stronger Malaysian ownership and national interests. BN has said the agenda will be reflected in its GE16 manifesto.
That matters because the lazy narrative says UMNO has nothing left to offer except its history. The facts tell a different story. The Blue Malaysia Agenda is explicitly being developed into policies, actions and measurable outcomes. Whether voters eventually accept those proposals is their decision. But pretending the proposals do not exist is simply intellectually dishonest.
There is also a clear political strategy behind UMNO’s current position. The party has maintained its commitment to the Unity Government until the end of the parliamentary term, while acknowledging that differences of opinion will inevitably exist. Its leadership has repeatedly framed political stability as a priority rather than constantly threatening to pull the plug.
Of course UMNO has challenges. No serious political party gets a free pass. It must rebuild trust, strengthen its grassroots machinery, sharpen its message and convince voters that its policies can deliver. But challenges are not the same thing as extinction. That basic distinction seems to escape some of its loudest critics.
The real problem with the UMNO obituary writers is that they confuse social-media noise with political reality. A viral clip is not a general election. A provocative headline is not a voter mandate. An internal disagreement is not automatically a party collapse. Politics is ultimately decided by organisation, candidates, policies, campaigning and when the time comes, the voters will decide.
UMNO and BN therefore have no reason to behave as though they have already lost. They should do the opposite. Organise harder, debate policies openly, defend their record where it deserves defending, admit weaknesses where necessary and put forward a credible programme for Malaysia’s future. The political battlefield rewards preparation, not premature surrender.
So let the UMNO haters keep writing their obituaries. Let them predict another collapse. Let them celebrate every disagreement as though it were the final chapter. UMNO does not need to answer every prediction with panic. It needs to answer with work, organisation, policy and results. Because as of today, the inconvenient fact remains: UMNO is still standing, BN is still moving, and the political story is far from over.
