In a recent rendezvous with the all-knowing Sage, I delved into the mystical realm of wishes and whimsies, particularly those of Malaysia's future monarch, set to ascend the throne in January 2024.
Armed with the insights from an interview with HRH Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, I ventured into the surreal suggestion that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Petronas should report directly to the King.
The Sage's response was nothing short of a comedic masterpiece.
I asked the Sage about the MACC reporting to the Agong, not Petronas. It was like inquiring about the dessert menu and getting a lecture on quantum physics instead.
The Sage began by painting a fantastical scene where the MACC, now under the direct tutelage of the Agong, transforms into a league of anti-corruption superheroes.
Picture this: the MACC Chief, adorned in a cape, effortlessly soaring over skyscrapers to combat corruption. Meanwhile, the agency's actions become as distant from the Prime Minister's office as Pluto is from Earth.
In this whimsical scenario, critics, akin to vuvuzelas at a football match, fall silent. The MACC is too busy chasing corrupt shadows to be anyone's political pawn.
As for Prime Minister, PMX, he's no longer haunted by the spectre of campaign promises gone awry.
With a sly grin, PMX sidesteps allegations of reneging on commitments. The newfound independence of the MACC saves him from parliamentary scrutiny, allowing him to proudly declare, “I kept my word; MACC is free from political meddling!”
"But let's not be swept away in this whimsical fantasy," warns the Sage. Handing over the MACC to the Agong, in the Sage's opinion, is the closest Malaysia might get to encountering a unicorn in its political landscape.
“So, until then, let's revel in the circus of power plays, keep our popcorn ready for the next act, and cherish the absurdity of this political theatre. Who knows, maybe elephants will learn to fly, and politicians will start quoting Shakespeare correctly!”
Thus, in the whimsical world of Malaysian politics, the stage is set for a spectacle where reality and fantasy dance a tango, leaving the audience in anticipation of the unexpected.
