Racists will act upon calls for public hysteria. They tend to work as a group rather than having the courage to say what is loud as an individual. It is due to the reason of their insecurity over how the people will respond afterward. Should their racist act be rejected by the mass public, they will eventually comply with what the majority says for the fear of losing publicity. Therefore, multicultural and multi-religious Malaysians should stand firm against these mental disorder people.
Shopping malls are owned by private properties just like residential homes. One could not just step in and complain for things to be just like what he or she wants. After all, it is up to the management's discretion for any promotional activities to be conducted. However, as long as the event did not cause any harm to its visitors and tenants, no one has the right to practice the cancel culture. Sensitivity claims are just lame excuses for bringing attention to a specific group of people with the hope that they will also be easily influenced to act blindly.
Public spaces are meant to be welcomed by all parties. Nevertheless, if certain things happen to mentally disturb or emotionally damage oneself, then try at best to distance or prohibit yourself from being there. As much as we want others to pay full respect for our privacy or choice of living style, let us also give the same to be fair and square. It is because how we treat others is the true reflection of our stereotypes or personal bias. We would not want to be labeled as an extremist who could not even tolerate others' perspectives but wants everybody else to honor certain beliefs or mindsets.
Banning is another misconception that telltale how people will give way to much stricter and one-sided kinds of laws. The self-claimed moral police boasted about how effective their decision to ban certain non-Islamic businesses was, even with no statistical fact. They tend to forget that Malaysians are a mixed up of different religions and beliefs where flexibility is much needed to bring equal rights and harmony. They also have no idea how discriminative banning may lead to more underground immoral activities that are capable of jeopardizing society's safety and peace of living. This racism act must be properly controlled by the Federal Government to restrain more damaging ethical situations in the future.
Imagine if the prejudiced way of thinking spreads. Would it not cause panic and unsettled disputes among the people? Do we care enough for the future of our young by living under a prejudiced system? Are we waiting for the worse to come by allowing racism and discrimination in the name of Islam?
Islam forbids intolerance against the non-Muslim community and celebrates differences by endorsing human rights and the freedom to choose.
With these explanations, it is hoped that Malaysians become more aware of why the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) is still very much needed. This controversial law provides unique measures to maintain public order and security, including all related matters to offenses against the Constitutional Law. SOSMA can constrain racism from turning into terrorism. This is because other laws were still insufficient to let the police have enough time and space to investigate hate crimes that endanger the country’s safety. Although certain clauses of the law must be amended for more consideration of the human rights of SOSMA detainees, let us pray that we will not fall blindly into the trap for us to become regretful later in life.
