Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim warned that ministers, deputy ministers and heads of federal agencies must resign if they use their positions to attack fellow Unity Government partners during state election campaigns.
He did not name any names, but we can only assume that the person that the warning is from BN, and that person must be a high-ranking minister for Anwar himself to issue the warning, because it is highly doubtful that Anwar's ire is directed at a minister from PH.
By evening, Foreign Minister and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, who is contesting in the Negeri Sembilan election, came out to say that although he has not attacked anyone in the government, he will quit his Cabinet position if Anwar orders him to do so.
From this, we can infer that the person Anwar was warning was Tok Mat. The reason for the back-and-forth between the both of them is likely because, as I predicted earlier, if Tok Mat succeeds in wresting control of Negeri Sembilan from PH, he is going to topple Zahid Hamidi and become the president of Umno, before challenging Anwar himself for the prime ministership in GE16.
Perhaps Anwar has been reading my articles , and realised that this is what is going to happen.
Well, if it is indeed the case that Anwar is reading, this is what I think he should consider doing.
I think Anwar should just take this opportunity to ask Tok Mat to quit.
After all, it was Tok Mat who offered to quit without even needing to. So Anwar should simply accept his offer. He should just say something to the tune of:
"I don't understand why you had to speak up publicly against me. It makes it sound as though you are challenging me for no reason, when you didn't even have to. You are causing me to lose face. So fine, do as you wish. You offered to quit if I ask, so I will ask. Hand me your resignation letter first thing tomorrow morning."
I think Anwar should ask Tok Mat to quit because Tok Mat won't expect it, and it will upset all of Tok Mat's plans.
As for the mayhem that it will create, well, the mayhem is going to come either way. So rather than have it come later, at a time of Tok Mat's choosing, why not have it now, when Tok Mat is not expecting it?
This is a good time for Anwar to do it because not only will it take Tok Mat and his team by surprise, it might even turn things around in Negeri Sembilan.
PH is already widely expected to lose in Negeri Sembilan, so Anwar should do something drastic to change the political narrative.
If Anwar makes Tok Mat quit, it might be exactly what PH needs to turn things around in Negeri Sembilan.
And if it doesn't?
So what?
PH is expected to lose Negeri Sembilan anyway. That being the case, Anwar has little to lose by taking the gamble.
In the way I see it, Tok Mat is a planner - he is not someone who will do well thinking on his feet.
Anwar on the other hand, is someone whose forte lies in thinking on his feet.
That being the case, what Anwar and Zahid should do to defeat Tok Mat is to not give Tok Mat time to plan, but instead force Tok Mat to think on his feet.
If Anwar falls in Tok Mat's plans, chances are, he will lose.
But if he drags Tok Mat into the arena that he is good at, then Fortune might favour him.
Let's see how the cookies will crumble.
