Sadly, children fail and eventually drop out of school because they never mastered listening and critical thinking skills.
Mary Magdalen, is a trainer in developing learning skills focusing on teaching children to learn “How to Learn”.
“As we move into a digitalised environment in the field of education, work, and life in general, it seems to me that people are losing their innate skills to live fully as children, women, and men,” said Mary, who has trained facilitators working with children having learning difficulties.
She explained: “Difficulties in learning, understanding, and coping with the rapidly changing environment pose challenges, and parents easily give up. This is all happening because children these days grow up in a “press-button” society and want quick answers rather than work through things.”
However, new techniques and teaching methods can help improve students' capacity to learn and succeed.
Therefore, students can adjust and manage better as they enhance, improve, and apply critical thinking skills, skills in questioning, and facing the challenges of a society that only recognises high achievers.
“Sadly, adults also lack these skills and, more importantly, analytical skills. When these skills are jeopardised, we become a society dependent on low-thinking leaders who exploit this lack to fulfil their goals and agenda.”
Eventually, Mary said, “We become a fragmented, compartmentalised society, dependent on political rhetoric, robotics, and artificial intelligence to guide us along.”
It’s time, Mary explained: “That we see how crucial it is for us to regain our inborn capabilities to question, think, analyse, and have the foresight to become resilient. In the face of these challenges, we need to encourage positive growth in helping learners to learn how to learn and rise above to become balanced people.” The video below provides tips on how to score As.
She said with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics taking the fast lane, the ‘have-nots’ are often left to fall through the cracks of society and end up doing menial jobs such as delivery personnel, Grab drivers or joining the ranks of social ills.
Thus, they become labelled as the unproductive lot, often referred to as “useless eaters” by the World Economic Forum.
Mary, who has assisted those with weaknesses and learning difficulties in France, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, is willing to help parents, adults, and NGOs help those who are neglected and need coaching to improve themselves.
