During the Prime Minister’s Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat on 2 Dec 2025, when queried by the Opposition, PMX said the fact that his x Political Secretary was pictured in handcuffs and wearing orange prison clothes was proof that he had not interfered in the investigation by MACC into his x Political Secretary.
“Are you not convinced? was what PMX said to the Opposition member who asked the question.
In Sept 2023, PMX, in reponse to queries from reporters said he did not interfere nor does he have the power to interfere in the case against his DPM.
Earlier, in March 2023, PMX when asked about MACC’s investigation into PM8 on Jana Wibawa and the flood mitigation project stressed that he did not interfere in the investigation and any decision to investigate and charge are the sole responsibility of MACC.
In Dec 2024, again, when asked by reporters on the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor of her 17 money laundering and tax evasion charges, PMX dismissed talk that he had interfered and instructed the High Court Judge in the said matter.
In June 2025, PMX reportedly said he has never interfered in judicial matters, including the appointment of judges, amid calls for the extension of the Chief Justice's tenure.
Ooops……why the constant need by reporters and the public to ask PMX the same question i.e did he interfere in this or that?
Once or twice probably appears reasonable as it is expected. But constantly and fairly frequently for that matter is beyond the norm.
Does this paint a picture that PMX does indeed have an impartial and independence issue?
And is this confined to his political opponents or the ordinary rakyat in general?
Are there that many doubters amongst the public that PMX always need to convince the questioners and all other doubters out there?
Recently there have been a number of high-profile perceived unethical leadership behaviour and practices.
These have affected the public's trust in the country’s political leaders.
When high-profile figures repeatedly receive discharges not amounting to acquittals (DNAA), it raises concerns about fairness and whether the system favours the powerful.
Public frustration is understandable.
Even if the PM isn’t interfering, the perception of political influence remains, especially since both the Chief Commissioner of MACC and the Attorney General, who decides whether to proceed with or drop charges, are political appointees.
The remedies for the distrust lie largely in the hands of PMX himself.
He can restore trust in him when words and actions accord with one another i.e telling the truth, keeping promises and engaging and not lecture the ordinary rakyat.
Yes, the country needs constructive questioning and the ordinary rakyat expects and hopes that PMX use his voice in every way he can principally to shape a Malaysia that he have been promising to the ordinary rakyat, a country that values every individual Malaysian regardless of their religious leanings and racial background.
And to restore trust in the system, legal reforms are needed urgently to separate the roles of Attorney General and Public Prosecutor, ensuring justice is truly independent and credible.
Unless he change, PMX will not survive and remains as the PM after the 16th GE.
