As reported in The Edge Malaysia, our Prime Minister recently announced an RM5 million annual allocation for the Malaysian Youth Council. Datuk Sri Anwar said, “Today’s youth must realise that they are the ones who will determine their future, provided that they commit, willingness to learn, reject corruption and tyranny, and uphold people’s dignity.”
This serves as a good reminder and a challenge to all our youths. The future of our nation is in your hands. We hope to see our young people rise to the occasion - in humility, be willing to learn, be brave to reject corruption and tyranny and fight against every odd to uphold the dignity of all the people of this land.
Does Malaysia have enough of such young people? Many young people have proven themselves in various fields (politics, law, business, arts, sports) and are a source of hope for our battered nation. However, we need an ever-growing pool of fearless young people in the face of corruption or discrimination. We need more young people who can see beyond skin colour and religious beliefs and are true Malaysians with the spirit of Muhibbah. Do we have enough young people who are brilliant and willing to pour in their all to shape the future of this nation? I think we have. The question is, “Are our young people willing?”
To all our many talented and energetic young people out there, this nation is crying out to you. Please do not allow corruption, tyranny or discrimination to destroy this beautiful land. Please speak out against injustice and discrimination so those without a voice will be heard. Please stand up for the truth and dispel the lies about this nation. Please be strong and keep pressing on in all your efforts to rebuild so that your Malaysian dream will become a reality.
