"Why don't you like me?". During today's "Keluar Sekejap" podcast broadcast, former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar posed a straightforward question to former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
In response, Dr. Mahathir looked composed and explained that Khairy Jamaluddin was in competition with his son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, which was why he did not like him.
“The reason is due to you competing against my son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz. Not only that, Pak Lah happened to support you as I was informed,” Dr. Mahathir explained.
But when Khairy Jamaluddin refuted the claims pertaining to his father-in-law as well, he asked that the issue not be brought up again.
"I just want to make sure you know that I know of Tun's disagreements with Pak Lah, especially regarding the dual track rail, the MV Agusta, and the bridge with Singapore. These are the three main issues between you too. However, in Pak Lah's defense, Tun should be aware that he is currently suffering from dementia and is unable to recall anything.
"I believe that the distinction is due to different policies. Yes, the Tun may have written about not being overly rigid about sovereignty and other things," he remarked.
That being said, none of the distinctions entail criminal components, according to Khairy Jamaluddin.
"I just wanted to let you know that there isn't any illegal component. In 2018, I lost my power, and although I was looked into, nothing came of it.
"Even though I have had a lot of experiences with Tun, I believe that the government's approach and policies have a greater bearing on the differences. However, Tun M had never been involved in abnormalities prior to today," he explained.
Dr. Mahathir also stated that the real reason he did not want to see Abdullah appointed as a minister again was because Abdullah supported Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, one of Dr. Mahathir’s challengers.
