The Union Government’s decision to increase the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre each on Friday has led to disappointment among commuters and transporters across the district.

Petrol now costs Rs 98.08 per litre in Karnal and diesel Rs 90.39 per litre. Earlier, petrol was priced at Rs 95.09 per litre and diesel Rs 87.55 per litre.
As per locals, the sudden hike in the fuel prices will affect their daily budget. They expressed concern over the increasing costs of transportation.
Autorickshaw drivers and taxi operators said the hike would reduce their earnings and may force them to increase fares.
“We will have no option but to increase fares due to the hike in fuel prices,” said Vishal, an autorickshaw driver. Opposition leaders, too, have criticised the government and demanded immediate rollback of the revised rates.
“It is an extra burden on common people and the hike should be rolled back,” said Shamsher Singh Gogi, former Congress MLA from Assandh.
