Two back-to-back blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar have not only raised serious law-and-order concerns but have also triggered intense political reactions and a high-level security alert in the border state.
Several opposition leaders have condemned the ruling party over what they termed major security lapses and its failure to ensure public safety.
With it being an election year, the sharp political reactions have turned the issue into a full-blown slugfest.
Former Punjab minister and senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said the blasts have completely exposed the failure of the AAP government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann.
“From calling it a ‘scooty fire’ to now being contradicted by CCTV evidence, this is nothing but a shameful cover-up. When explosions are happening near BSF and Army establishments in a border state like Punjab, it is not just a lapse — it is a serious intelligence failure. The government cannot hide behind PR narratives while the security of Punjabis is at risk. People of Punjab deserve answers, accountability, and, above all, safety,” Majithia said.
Amritsar Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla said, “The recurring blasts in Punjab are a grave threat to security. Anti-national elements are trying to disturb peace, especially in sensitive border areas. Both the Centre and the state government must stop political blame games and work together to restore law and order. A transparent probe is needed to expose the network behind these incidents and strict action must be taken to ensure citizens can live without fear.”
Similarly, BJP district president Harwinder Sandhu demanded the resignation of Bhagwant Mann on moral grounds. He said that since the AAP government came to power, Punjab’s law and order has deteriorated. Referring to the recent blast near a military area in Amritsar and incidents of shootings, he alleged that the Chief Minister had failed to maintain peace.
“He should resign on moral grounds, as crime and anti-national activities have grown unchecked, leaving people feeling unsafe and Punjab resembling Afghanistan under misrule,” Sandhu said.
Meanwhile, former Amritsar Improvement Trust chairman and Congress leader Dinesh Bassi said that the blasts in Amritsar and Jalandhar expose serious lapses in Punjab’s security. He said that as a border state, special arrangements are essential, yet the government appears to be failing in its primary responsibility of maintaining law and order. Ongoing criminal and terror-related incidents are spreading fear, and political tussles are worsening the situation. A thorough probe and strict action are urgently needed to restore peace and public trust, he added.
