IPOH, Sept 5 — Police arrested two men yesterday over unlicensed money-lending and possession of ATM cards belonging to others, during an operation codenamed Ops Vulture in Teluk Intan.

Hilir Perak police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said the suspects were arrested by the district’s Commercial Crime Investigation Division.

He said the first arrest was at a Maybank ATM in Teluk Intan, involving a man who was making a cash withdrawal. Two ATM cards belonging to other people and RM300 cash were found on him.

“Following leads provided by the suspect, police then conducted a raid at a money-lending premises along Jalan Ah Cheong, Teluk Intan, which led to the arrest of a second man,” he said in a statement today.

He added that a search of the premises also uncovered three ATM cards and several pieces of gold jewellery, believed to be linked to the case. The seized items were estimated at RM2,050

He added that both suspects are being held at the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters and they have been remanded until Sept 6 to assist in the investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Sections 420 and 424 of the Penal Code,” he said.

He advised the public against handing over their ATM cards or allowing others to use them, even when enticed with rewards.

“Members of the public are cautioned against engaging in any suspicious dealings involving the use of bank accounts or ATM cards, whether their own or belonging to others.

“Misusing accounts and banking facilities for criminal activities will result in stern legal action,” he said. — Bernama
