Oscar winner who worked with David Bowie dies aged 77

  • Oscar-winning British film producer Jeremy Thomas has died peacefully at his home in Oxfordshire at the age of 77, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
  • Best known for producing The Last Emperor, which won nine Academy Awards including Best Picture, Thomas enjoyed a distinguished decades-long career backing independent and international cinema.
  • Throughout his prolific career, Thomas collaborated with world-renowned directors including Bernardo Bertolucci, David Cronenberg, Nicolas Roeg, and Nagisa Oshima on acclaimed films such as Sexy Beast, The Sheltering Sky, and Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, starring David Bowie
  • Recognised for his vast contributions to the film industry, he was appointed CBE in the 2009 New Year Honours list and received an outstanding European achievement award from the European Film Academy in 2006.
  • His recent work includes the psychological thriller The Good Boy, while his latest collaboration with Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival.
