- Irish musician and actor Glen Hansard, aged 56, has died following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in the west of Dublin.
- Hansard, who won the Best Original Song Oscar in 2008 for the hit indie film Once, was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 29 July.
- Irish police confirmed that a man in his 50s died in the collision, with emergency services being alerted shortly before 4.30am.
- Before achieving international fame with Once, Hansard emerged from Dublin’s busking scene and formed his band, The Frames. The actor also starred in hit film The Commitments in 1991.
- Irish media outlets, including Newstalk Radio and the Irish Independent, reported Hansard's death, with The Independent seeking comment from his representative.
