A HUGE accolade goes to the Sabah ladies football team for emerging champions in the preliminary rounds in Group C of the AFC Women’s Champions League, when they defied all odds by winning their final match against favourites FC Nasaf from Uzbekistan 2-1 at the Likas Stadium on Saturday.

On that evening, the stage was set, the mood was right and the weather was perfect. The home fans came in droves with some 4,000 turning up to cheer the team on.

It must be the first time to have that number of fans coming into Likas Stadium to watch a women’s match.

Their presence was a great morale booster for the players who had to face a team that had earlier defeated APF FC 1-0, whilst we only managed a goalless draw.
